Emmerdale's Dominic Brunt explains how he struggled with new filming rules

Dominic Brunt has spoken of the challenges that he has faced with Emmerdale’s new filming rules.

The actor admitted that he felt ‘overwhelmed’ with all the changes to working on the ITV soap, and that he was ‘a bit snappy’ when he went back.

The soap began filming again last month for the first time since lockdown began in a bid to control coronavirus from spreading.

The programme commenced a “phased return to filming” by recording six new episodes featuring characters during lockdown.

Dominic’s character Paddy Kirk and co-star Lucy Pargeter were among the soap’s stars picked to appear in the programme’s first six episodes.

He spoke today on Lorraine about the shock of going back to work after so long.

"Out of the six episodes, the one we were doing is subtle - the drama is tiny,” he explained. "There's no huge reveal or a massive fallout.

“It was an odd one, all the drama comes from tiny little moments, so it was great, but it was like 58 pages in a day.

"I basically had to go from learning nothing for three months to learning what was basically a 25 minute conversation between two people, so it was terrifying.”

He went on to praise his co-star Lucy and admit that he had to apologise when he got a little irritated throughout the day.

“Lucy always knows what she is doing so you just have to get everything ready,” said Dominic.

"I definitely hit a wall by the end of the day and got a bit snappy. I had to make some calls that night just to apologise to people."

A number of other TV programmes have been affected by the pandemic, including Coronation Street, Eastenders and Line of Duty.

Emmerdale airs Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm on ITV.
