Emmerdale's David to face 'really dark times' in fallout to Maya's arrest

Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden has revealed his character David Metcalfe will face “dark times” in the fallout to Maya Stepney being arrested.

Maya finally faces justice next week, after grooming her teenage stepson, David’s son Jacob, for months.

After David tracks the pair down after they ran away, with Maya manipulating Jacob into believing they’re in love, Maya is arrested.

But Matthew has revealed there’s “dark” times to come for the character as Jacob blames him for Maya’s departure.

Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden teases dramatic end to Maya and Jacob plot

He revealed: “David's relationship with Jacob becomes very strained. It goes through various ups and downs.

“At first Jacob locks himself away in his bedroom. David is trying to get through to him – he doesn't blame Jacob.

“Yes he's angry with Jacob and feels betrayed by him, but David is trying to push those feelings down and just go for Maya. He knows that it's all Maya's fault and Jacob was the innocent victim.”

Matthew went on: “But Jacob still wants nothing to do with David.

“He thinks that David and Leyla have got 'the love of his life' arrested and he's not going to see her again. He blames them for that."

Matthew revealed that the tense plot would lead to hard times for his character, and events that he might not come back from.

He said: “David loses the plot a bit and goes through some really dark times.

“He's shouting at Jacob and not being the role model and rock that he should be.

"What Pollard then does is take Jacob out of the situation and has Jacob living with him."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
