Emmerdale's Claire King explains why working on soap is so much tougher now

Emmerdale returnee Claire King says filming a soap is far tougher now than when she was in the show 20 years ago.

Claire, 56, made a permanent comeback as villain Kim Tate last month having left in 1999.

When she first joined, the ITV soap had two episodes a week – now there are six

She said: “The process has changed so much. It’s a whirl, pretty intense. The hardest jobs in this business are pantomime and soap. It’s the slog, the grind, the day-in, day-out, learning so many lines, so many scenes.”

Emmerdale viewers 'switch off' from sickening Maya scenes - but miss major twist

Despite the hard work she is loving being back in the Dales.

But one thing she is unlikely to go back to is reality TV.

Claire, who fell ill while in Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, told the Series Linked podcast: “I left there and ended up on a drip for a week. I’ve kind of put those on hold for now.”
