Emmerdale's Chris Chittell suffers major hair fail as he attempts own haircut

Emmerdale's Chris Chittell has been left with a very dodgy haircut after he took the clippers to his tresses in lockdown.

The veteran soap star - who plays Eric Pollard on the ITV soap - decided to trim his hair to tidy up silver strands but the result of his handwork was so bad that his co-stars and fans have poked fun at him on social media.

The 72-year-old first hinted that he was attempting to work on his locks by teasing a snap of a pair of electric hair clippers onto his Facebook page.

Suggesting that things did not go to plan, he captioned the upload: "Ooops!"

He then followed up with a close-up snap of the end result of his new style - which left his followers gasping in horror.

Chris typed next to the snap: "Double oooops!!"

The image showed a large line of his hair shaven away.

Under the photo he explained: "Double cos it’s on t’other side as well stupidly put the wrong attachment and had not used the mirror!! Duh!!!”

Chris' fellow Emmerdale co-star James Hooton, who plays Sam Dingle, commented: "You've lost your sh*t Chitters."

A cheeky fan added: "Try Miracle Gro."

Another added: "Train tracks, you will need to wear a wig if you start filming again."

Weeks prior to his hair mishap the joker uploaded an image of himself modelling a bushy wig.

He told his Facebook followers: "Who cares if you can’t get to the hairdressers I’m letting mine grow and to hell with continuity okay okay methinks the red wine has helped with the nourishment, possibly!!"

TV boss John Whiston recently confessed Emmerdale cast members have caused trouble for bosses and script writers due to their lockdown looks.

The show recently recommenced filming amid the coronavirus lockdown, having halted filming in March.

Amid fears the soap would go off air and run out of episodes filmed before the COVID-19 restrictions came into place, the ITV soap later revealed this would not happen.

They've had limited cast members and staff back at the studio for the past few weeks, filming special lockdown episodes - while Emmerdale will only air twice a week from Monday.

But with selected characters back and filming scenes with the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic, there's been a few issues.

Obviously the episodes airing now, which run out this week, were filmed back in early March.

During the lockdown months, some cast members decided to shake things up with their looks and it has meant the script writers have had to think fast.

John told Lorraine Kelly on her show on Wednesday: "You can also see my biggest problem right there with Aaron's haircut.

"Most of the cast for some reason decided to shave their heads, and all the female cast decided to dye their hair puce.

"It was a problem with everyone coming back to work. How did his hair get like that?

"We've had to put in loads of lines in on how he got his hair like it."
