Emmerdale's Asan N’Jie sacked from soap after fight with Hollyoaks' Jamie Lomas at awards

Asan N'Jie has been sacked by Emmerdale bosses after he reportedly 'attacked' Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas at the TV Choice Awards.

ITV vowed to launch an investigation on Tuesday into the showdown which reportedly saw N'jie thrown punches at Lomas following the ceremony at the Hilton Park Lane in Mayfair, London on Monday night.

He was then reportedly removed from the event by security staff.

Following crunch talks with N'Jie, an ITV spokeswoman said: "Emmerdale suspended Asan N'Jie yesterday pending further investigation into an incident at a central London hotel on Monday night.

"ITV executives have met with him this morning and as a consequence Asan's contract has been terminated with immediate effect."

N'Jie, who first joined the Yorkshire soap as Ellis Chapman a year ago, said his behaviour had been "unacceptable".

The actor also offered an apology to Lomas as well as Emmerdale's cast, crew and viewers.

His character was involved in a hard-hitting knife crime storyline, which saw him nominated for Best Newcomer at the TV Choice Awards

N'Jie said in a statement: "My behaviour at the TV Choice Awards was completely unacceptable and very much out of character.

"I sincerely apologise to everybody who has been affected especially Jamie Lomas, the whole Emmerdale team, our audience, ITV, my family, and the organisers of the TV Choice Awards.

"I am devastated, accept full responsibility for my actions and I am determined to learn from this."

Before joining the popular soap, N'Jie had successful roles in BBC drama Waterloo Road, Doctors and Casualty as well as a job in Steven Spielberg's Hollywood blockbuster Ready Player One.
