Emmerdale's Adam Thomas to return to Waterloo Road in new role

The hit BBC school-based drama is returning to our screens after a six-year break with a familiar face.

Former Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas is reportedly reprising his role as Donte in Waterloo Road, but this time as one of the teachers.

The 33-year-old actor played bad boy Donte Charles between 2006 and 2009, and now he is set to return to the role that kick-started his acting career.

After finding fame on the show, Adam went on to star in Emmerdale as Adam Barton - a role he held from 2009 until he quit in 2018.

Adam, who was one of the original cast members, is said to be "over the moon" at reprising his role.

A source told The Sun: "It’s been top secret for a while but Adam is over-the-moon to be going back to Waterloo Road. It's where it all started for him and he was really excited when it was announced the show would be coming back.

"Of course Adam was thrilled to be asked to return and didn't hesitate in saying yes. It's something he's made no secret of and made it clear to bosses he was eager to do. He’s overjoyed it’s finally happening!”

It was announced back in September that Waterloo Road would be returning to screens after the series came to an end in 2015 after 10 successful series.

The new series of Waterloo Road will be set and created in Greater Manchester.

It will be produced by award-winning Wall To Wall (The Windermere Children, Man in Room 301) in co-production with Ladder Fiction, the new Manchester-based label from Cameron Roach.

Cameron Roach was also the executive producer of Waterloo Road in both Rochdale and Greenock.

There are rumours another Waterloo Road original, actress Heather Peace, who played Nikki Boston in the BBC drama could also return to her role.

The actress who is currently playing Eve in EastEnders, had fans begging for her to return to Waterloo Road following the announcement the show was returning to our screens.

Heather responded in a tweet: “Obviously that would be amazing at some point!”
