Emmerdale reveals David Metcalfe's diagnosis after worrying health scare

Emmerdale’s David Metcalfe feared the worst as he was called to the hospital to collect his blood test results.

Matthew Wolfenden’s character was worried his testicular cancer had returned, after attending a check-up appointment last week.

He had to have some blood tests taken, and on Tuesday he was asked to return to the hospital to hear his results.

David feared that the visit would spell the news his cancer had returned, with stepson Jacob surprising him at the appointment for support.

The character was diagnosed with the disease in 2016, and thankfully after treatment he was given the all clear.

On Tuesday’s double bill, he was seen confiding in his dad Eric Pollard about the results.

While Eric reassured him all would be fine, David admitted the fact the results were in person and not in print or over the phone made him convinced it was bad news.

He didn’t tell Jacob what was going on, but Eric let slip David’s concerns so he headed to the hospital to meet him.

David was clearly worried about the appointment, while viewers didn’t actually see him with the doctor.

They were left relieved though when he and Jacob returned home, with his true diagnosis.

David was told he was anaemic and that his cancer had not returned, leaving his loved ones reassured.

He went on to explain he would need more tests to determine why he was suffering with anaemia, but was fine.

Viewers took to Twitter over the scenes, with many glad to see Jacob and David back on track weeks on from the discovery the teenager was being groomed by David’s girlfriend Maya Stepney.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with extra episodes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm.
