Emmerdale Liv actress' co-star boyfriend rumours and hidden life as pop star

It's not often that a soap star's real life is just as exciting as their character's - but that's the case for Isobel Steele.

The Emmerdale actress has been playing Liv Flaherty since 2016, who was brought in during half-brother Aaron's sex abuse storyline.

Soap bosses wanted a "teenage troublemaker" to bring drama to the village and Isobel described her character as "very strong willed and quite powerful".

However, it wasn't the first time we had seen Isobel on our screens, as the 20-year-old actress has been acting since she was a child.

After starring in TV adverts for Park Foods, Iceland, Harveys Furniture and Bernard Matthews Ltd between 2008 and 2010, Isobel appeared in BBC drama Our Zoo and an episode of The Dumping Ground.

Emmerdale viewers were wowed by her performances and she won Best Young Actor at The British Soap Awards and Inside Soap Awards in 2018.

Amazingly, Isobel has managed to juggle her highly successful acting career with chasing her dream of becoming a singer.

When she's not on the Emmerdale set, Isobel has a secret second life as a pop star and has already built up a massive fanbase on her YouTube channel.

Using her home studio, the talent singer and song writer posts original and cover songs and has wracked up a tonne of views.

"It’s just something I have always done. I’ve enjoyed the piano from a young age. I had lessons, and now write songs, so I thought I might as well share them," the actress told Inside Soap.

"My music taste varies a lot, but from the start someone who has inspired me is Adele. She writes her own music and is brilliant."

Isobel released an extended play called Sounds from the Lounge on Spotify and Apple Music in November 2019 which she was "ridiculously nervous and excited to share".

She admitted it felt like "the most far fetched thing" when she first planned to record an EP because she had only written once song and no one had even heard her sing.

Upon the release of the track, she proudly wrote: "My EP Sounds from the lounge is out now. Mental.

"I spent a lot of time working on on this project, the main reason being, these were the first songs I’d ever written and I actually had no idea what I was doing.

"So a massive thank you to Mike at HQ studios. And a special thank you to my dad who wrote all the bass parts and helped me bring these songs to life with his wonderful ideas and input."

Recently she has also revealed another of her many hidden talents - a secret flair for painting.

Despite having thousands of fans of her acting and musical work, Isobel has still yet to come to terms with being in the showbiz spotlight.

"It’s not my thing at all, I feel more comfortable in joggers. It’s all good fun, though," she told Inside Soap.

"Everyone thinks there’s rivalry between the soaps but when you see people at these dos, we all have a good time."

In Emmerdale, Liv has recently split up from Vinny Dingle after he discovered she left his dad Paul to die in the barn explosion.

But things are completely different off-screen as there has been speculation that Isobel is dating Vinny actor Bradley Johnson.

In May this year, the pair were enjoyed a romantic staycation in UK as they visited beaches and campsites across Cornwall.

They embraced the questionable weather and Isobel shared snaps from the back of their duvet-filled campervan - with Bradley featuring in some of the photos.

A source told The Sun : "They looked to be getting on really well and really enjoying themselves on holiday.

"We thought we were seeing things. You don't expect to see people from the telly on a campsite."

An Emmerdale spokeswoman said they are just good friends.

It's been a dramatic time for Isobel's character, who is set to hit rock bottom amid her alcoholism battle as she spirals out of control.

Liv began drinking again after struggling to deal with the crash that led to Paul's death, but she has remained in denial and now it has gone way too far.

Vinny tries to motivate his ex to stop drinking and has hopes of a reconciliation, but Mandy fears she is not good enough for him and hatches a plan to keep them apart.

When Liv discovers Vinny has taken Belle out for a drink, with Mandy claiming it's because he "needs someone normal", the heartbroken teen goes off the rails again.

Discussing Belle and Vinny's relationship, Isobel said: "I think it will have an impact on her attitude towards Vinny because she's got a relationship with Belle, and I think we assume they have more of a relationship off screen

"When we have a scene together, me and Eden (Taylor-Draper), they tend to be quite heartfelt, emotional scenes, so I think people assume we have a relationship off screen.

"She also confides in her about things she can't talk to Aaron about, which is quite nice to play.

"So it would feel like a massive betrayal because this is someone she has gone to in the past for help, and she has helped her and is genuinely a good friend and almost family, and with her ex-boyfriend.... it’s not a good situation for her.

"It also plays into the whole the family is against me thing... she now has Belle who she thinks is going against her, so she's gonna feel isolated."

Liv clings on to hope they can get back together so is crushed when Vinny explains that he just wants to be friends and is sent "spiralling" out of control.

On what will come next for Liv, Isobel added: "It's hard to know where rock bottom is, because I've read scripts a few times and thought, 'oh this is rock bottom. Oh no, no this is'.

"It's how far can you push her? If she's yet to hit rock bottom it might be a good thing because hopefully she can come to her senses on her own, and realise she can't live like this.

"But if she has hit rock bottom then it is not a great tactic because she's not well and vulnerable. We will have to see if she does get back on her feet."

*Emmerdale airs tonight on ITV at 7pm
