Jonny McPherson has established himself as one of Emmerdale's most important cast members.
The 41-year-old actor first arrived on the long-running soap in 2014. The village doctor became a major character in 2018 and has since been embroiled in some of the show's biggest storylines.
His daughter, Leanna, was the first victim to be killed by the villainous Meena Jutla before she began her reign of terror. Liam has become embroiled in a lighter storyline this week as he engaged in an affair with Wendy Posner.

The two bonded over a love of mystery novels and couldn't keep their hands off each other in racy scenes that aired this week. Away from the soap, Jonny shared updates from his own love life this week as his onscreen counterpart became involved in a new relationship.
He told OK! Magazine that he is happily dating a new mystery love, he said: "She is absolutely wonderful. We’ve been together for a couple of years. I am really happy.”
Jonny was previously dating co-star Natalie J. Robb, who plays Moira Dingle on the ITV soap. Jonny revealed their relationship moved at a rapid pace as they started living together during the coronavirus lockdown. He told Mirror Online: "We had to make a decision as lots of couples did.
"We decided to move in together and so, yes, lockdown did fast forward our relationship." Jonny swooned over their relationship as he added: "We get on so well. We come from quite different backgrounds but we are essentially the same person."
The two have since split up but remain on close terms. Jonny also revealed another big life change as he has moved into a flat in Leeds.
The soap star previously lived on a canal boat, but he has now sold the home for a more traditional living space. He told OK!: "Acting is a precarious profession. It can be very difficult to get a mortgage if you are only working for six months of the year.
"So, when you get two years of working on something like Emmerdale, it allows you to get a mortgage finally. I’ve got a flat now in Leeds and I’ve sold my boat.
“I did put it on Airbnb for 18 months before I sold it, and it really took off. After a while, though, it began to get more difficult to manage. I was having to check in guests at 10pm on a Friday evening on top of my full-time role in Emmerdale and I decided to sell.”
Jonny is happier than ever working on Emmerdale and admitted he has no plans to quit the show as Dr Liam Cavanagh looks set to stay for long time in the fictional Yorkshire village.
He said: “My brother is an actor too and my mum is our greatest fan. She doesn’t miss a single show. I’ve no ambitions to conquer Hollywood and it’s such a pleasure being a part of Emmerdale.
“What’s great about the soap is that they do the funny stories, like what’s happening with Liam and Wendy, so well, but also the dramatic scenes too. I really enjoy being in the soap a lot.”
