Emmerdale Lawrence White actor John Bowe quits acting in protest against Covid rules

An Emmerdale actor says he has left his acting career behind to spend his time opposing Covid regulations.

Actor John Bowe, known for appearing in Emmerdale and Coronation Street, said he has joined Reform UK, previously the Brexit Party.

On November 2, he wrote on Twitter: "I have left my 50 year career behind. My family is suffering emotionally and financially because of my stand. But I am determined to stop this s***show.

"I have joined @reformparty_uk and I am in constant dialogue with the leadership because I see this as a way out of this hell."

Bowe, 71, has retweeted several tweets on his account opposing vaccines for children and promoting anti-parasitic medicine Ivermectin.

Ivermectin has seen popularity with the anti-vax movement as a treatment for Covid, despite health authorities in multiple countries having yet to find evidence for its effectiveness.

He has also shared a petition calling for employers to be prohibited from requiring staff vaccinations.

Strangely, back in April 2020, Bowe had tweeted that he had 'nearly died' from coronavirus and urged fans to stay home.

At the time, he wrote: "I have nearly died twice in my life. Once just last week.

"The gauze between life and death is extremely thin and oh so easy to pass through.

He added: "Beware the fickleness, selfishness and stupidity of the masses. Come on UK. We’re better than this. Stand firm and strong behind our leaders who, together with us, are trying to find a way through this vicious clinging swamp. #StayHomeSaveLives."

Bowe joined Emmerdale in 2014 to play character Lawrence White, Harold Birch's former lover.

His character was killed off in a car accident in the show in January 2018.
