Emmerdale forced to make big changes for filming of dramatic 50th anniversary episodes

Isobel Steele has revealed Emmerdale bosses were forced to make some big changes whilst filming for the soap's 50th anniversary.

The actress - who plays Liv Flaherty on the ITV soap - has revealed some behind the scenes secrets from filming the dramatic episodes, which will air in October in line with the soap's milestone birthday. Liv is a big part of the month long celebrations, which will see the village hit by a huge storm with lives left hanging in the balance.

Isobel has opened up to The Mirror and other press about the exciting "stunts". She also revealed some big changes the show's cast and crew had to make in order to film the dramatic scenes.

"Filming the storm; it's so much fun. I love anything to do with stunts and anything that's different from the normal day. It's really good fun. The wind machines are huge. They're so loud. We've been given this little clip on holder for my earplugs because the wind machines so loud, but we can't hear what anyone's saying," she shared.

"So me and Brad are like, oh, we've got to have to think about when you are gonna say that line because I've got no idea cause I can't see or hear you at all. So we're just kind of winging it. That's really good. Fun to do."

She added: "And we've got these flags that the Assistant Directors are using in order to signal for the wind and then signal for us. Cause we can't hear or see. So we're just like looking for a bit green. It's really good; I've been really enjoying it."

Isobel recalled walking onto set and seeing how they've crafted the devastation.

She added: "I came to work yesterday and I saw things on its side and I completely forgot that that happened. So I came and I was like, oh my God. And the trees are smashed everywhere. Branches. It looks like it's not been like worked in for years. It looks amazing."

The soap star teased some dramatic scenes ahead, especially for her and Vinnie.

Danny Miller will be back as Aaron Dingle for the special episodes (ITV)

"I'm really excited. It's gonna be really good. To have a new character back in the show and see a different side to Liv and Vinnie. It's all very new. I think, you know, everyone loves a relationship that works on screen and don't we all, but it's never that easy is it when it's soap? So it's nice to have their relationship tested and see how they work through those issues," she said.

"And they do work through a lot of them, you know, you can see and just trying to make it work all the time and talking about what went wrong and they're really communicative and really, really love each other."

*Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV.
