Emmerdale filming CANCELLED as the ITV soap's set is hit by heavy snow

Emmerdale filming has been cancelled due to heavy snow.

It comes after the UK was hit by large amounts of snow from Storm Larissa, which has led to disruption.

Actor Nick Miles, who plays Jimmy King, tweeted: "Filming on Emmerdale cancelled today due to the snow. Look out Leeds. We're all going sledging."

The ITV soap's set was hit by snow on Thursday this week, but they were able to carry on filming.

Emmerdale's Rosie Bentham, who plays Gabby Thomas, and Lewis Cope, who plays Nicky, took to Instagram to share snaps of the iconic village set covered in snow.

Filming for the soap takes place outside of Leeds as well as at a studio based in the city iteself.

Before moving to Leeds, Emmerdale was filmed in the village of Esholt in West Yorkshire.

However, residents soon grew tired of being on a set and of all the tourists it attracted.

Storm Larissa has battered parts of the UK with rain, gales and blizzards sweeping the country overnight.

The Met Office has issued three amber warnings for northern England, the Midlands, North Wales and Northern Ireland, where "significant disruption" to transport and power supplies is expected.

Four yellow warnings for snow also cover much of the rest of the nation, with the exception of South East England and western Scotland.

Traffic was brought to a standstill for more than seven hours on the M62 in the north-west this morning due to heavy snow.

Emmerdale stars are currently filming for episodes that will air in May.
