Emmerdale fans thrilled as Footballers' Wives actor Ben Richards makes debut on ITV soap

Emmerdale fans were thrilled to see Ben Richards make his debut on the ITV soap tonight.

The Footballers' Wives star announced back in October that he had signed up to join the soap as Gavin, and viewers were incredibly pleased to see the actor make his debut on the soap on Thursday night.

Fans took to Twitter to share their excitement as Gavin chatted with Al about The Woolpack. Al has recently invested money in the village pub after Chas, Paddy and Marlon Dingle struggled financially after a string of tough business decisions.

However, it was later revealed that Al is planning to turn the pub into luxury apartments.

In the scenes, Gavin told Al: "Little bird in the council says things aren't looking too good?"

"It's just a minor bump in the road, that's it, I'll sort it!" Al replied, as he vowed to sort it all out.

Gavin then said sinisterly from his car, as he warned: "Only we think we've waited long enough, people have got a lot of money riding on this. So you need to move it on.

"I'm getting a little sick of all your talk. It's actions we want now, dates, a plan," he added, "You better had because we're not taking this into another year, the work starts before January, got it? Good, I'm not asking, I'm telling!"

Whilst Gavin's arrival isn't likely to be great for Al, fans were pleased to see Ben - who has also starred on The Bill - on the soap.

"I know that guy from footballer's wives # emmerdale," one wrote.

Another added: "#Emmerdale Him from The Bill," whilst a third wrote: "Ooh it’s @benrichardsact #Emmerdale."

Ben announced he had joined the ITV soap back in October and fans rushed to congratulate him.

"Am so chuffed to announce this, gonna be fun #blessed #filming #Emmerdale," he wrote.

One viewer shared in response: "Congrats Ben can’t wait to start watching you back on our screens again," as a second added: "Oh fantastic you will be excellent on the show x."

It comes after Emmerdale confirmed a devastating fire will rip through the famous pub The Woolpack this Christmas, after pictures from set teased the new plot.

It has not been confirmed if anyone will be hurt in the blaze, but it is believed it could be a deliberate act.
