Emmerdale fans think they've rumbled identity of mystery witness who set up Belle Dingle

Emmerdale aired troubling scenes recently, as the Dingles went to desperate lengths to stop Belle Dingle from going to prison.

She's currently being set up by her ex Jamie Tate over a hit-and-run he committed, after Belle tried to shop him to the police.

Belle's nephew Nate Robinson has since decided to take the blame, realising Belle is struggling with her mental health.

The family are desperate to prove it was Jamie who was driving the car that hit Moira, almost killing her, but they're struggling to find the evidence.

With a witness recently coming forward claiming they saw Belle driving the car around the time of the accident, it was not looking good for her.

Emmerdale viewers are sure they have an idea over who Jamie Tate paid off to set up ex Belle Dingle (ITV)

Nate stepped up to protect her, while the identity of the mystery witness remains unknown.

Viewers have a few different ideas though on who it might be, with one character in particular topping the list.

They're all existing characters, with one of them yet to make his village debut just yet.

But taking to Twitter after Moira and Cain failed to find out who Jamie had paid off to be a witness, fans believed they may have cracked the case.

Many questioned if Moira's estranged brother Mackenzie is to blame, as he kidnaps Cain next week for an unknown reason.

One fan said: "So the witness will be Moira's brother?"

Another tweeted: "Think the big witness will be Moira's Brother isn't he supposed to be turning up?"

A third added: "He will also be the witness whose come forward to say they saw Belle run her over."

Meanwhile others believe it was Paul Ashdale, Vinny's father, who is desperate for cash amid his gambling addiction.

Emmerdale viewers suspect Paul could be the witness (ITV)

One viewer tweeted: "I wonder if Paul is the one who claimed to witness the hit & run that injured Moira? He will do anything for money, so did he do this for Jamie? It's just that, when I think Paul can't stoop any lower, he succeeds in surprising me!"

A second added: "Bet Paul is Jamie’s convenient new witness. He’ll do anything for money. I bet he stole the watch Ellis got for his birthday too."

Meanwhile the final name thrown into the mix was another character desperate for money, Dan Spencer.

While he is the least likely, fans still tipped a twist could be on the way.

A viewer tweeted: "Is Dan the one who has become Jamie's witness?"

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
