Emmerdale fans 'rumble Charles' secret identity' and his 'connection to Malone'

Emmerdale fans have been busy speculating about newcomer Charles - trying to decode his real intentions.

The kindly new vicar, portrayed by Kevin Mathurin, has shared scenes with Katherine Dow Blyton's Harriet Finch, the two told they'd be working closely together for the foreseeable.

But clergywoman Harriet grew uncomfortable as Charles expressed concern that a grave had been disturbed - that of bent copper Mark Malone (Mark Womack).

Despite Harriet's attempts to shrug off his questions, Charles pressed her to tell him why she didn't want to report it to the police.

In August Harriet and Dawn (Olivia Bromley) kill the crooked officer in self-defence, and buried him in an unoccupied grave.

And after the tense scenes aired, fans presented their theories - and all may not be as it seems with "undercover cop" Charles.

"Harriet might as well tell Charles the truth," one claimed, "He can see right through her."

Another tweeted: "I think Charles is an undercover cop. He is asking lots of questions and he could tell the grave has been dug up."

"The undercover cop about to get the juicy gossip," a third enthused.

"The new vicar is an undercover cop, right?" a fourth asked.

Charles became more and more suspicious last night as Harriet tried to dodge his probing questions.

She grew panicked that he'd blabbed to the bishop about the disturbed ground, Charles telling her: "Not yet. She's free this afternoon."

"Really?" Harriet said, "There's no need to bother her with this."

Charles was having none of it, telling her: "A grave has been disturbed. I can't ignore it even if you can. You used to be a police officer, you know this is serious."

But Harriet pressed on, admitting it "wouldn't end well" for her if the police became involved.

"You're asking me to compromise myself then I need to know why," Charles said bluntly.

"What are you hiding, Harriet?"
