Emmerdale fans rejoice as Zak Dingle returns to village - and he's not alone

Emmerdale viewers welcomed Zak Dingle back with open arms on Monday night, as the character played by actor Steve Halliwell made his comeback.

Zak has been staying in Scotland with granddaughter Debbie Dingle, and great-nephew Aaron Dingle.

Off-screen, actor Steve has taken the past six months or so off for a break with him re-commencing filming in February.

In the latest episode of the ITV soap, amid the news the coronavirus pandemic had halted filming, Zak made his long-awaited comeback.

But he wasn't alone, as another Dingle returned for baby Eve's christening.

Aaron, played by actor Danny Miller, departed in January after the heartbreak of his marriage to Robert Sugden coming to an end.

He came back with Zak for little sister Eve's ceremony, and was back on track much to the relief of his family.

Viewers were thrilled to see Aaron back and looking so well, as he vowed to move on with his life.

But he came with the confession that poor Zak had one too many beers, and was unable to make the ceremony.

Instead, he took a nap back at home to rest his rough head.

Zak did soon join the party though, gathering in the pub to "wet the baby's head".

As the villagers welcomed him back, he apologised for his earlier absence but vowed to celebrate in Dingle fashion.

Taking to Twitter, viewers shared their own reactions to the two returns, especially Zak's, with many pleased to see them both.

One fan said: "Zak is back! Aaron is back!"

This was echoed by a fourth fan who commented: "How good it is to see Aaron back glad to have you back."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
