Emmerdale fans rage that soap was 'robbed' after winning just TWO Soap Awards

Emmerdale fans were left raging tonight after it won just two awards at this evening's British Soap Awards.

The ITV soap lost out to Hollyoaks, who clinched the top spot by winning the Best Soap gong.

Actress Lucy Pargeter scooped the award for Best Actress for her role as Chas Dingle.

Director Val Lawson was the recipient of the special Tony Warren Award - something she was incredibly shocked about.

But fans were fuming that their favourite soap were only given two awards.

One tweeted: " I think @emmerdale were robbed of a few awards tonight but well done to @lucyparge on winning best actress #SoapAwards

While another commented: "Me pretending to be happy for the other soaps when I am actually FUMING that #emmerdale was robbed! #SoapAwards."

A third remarked: "Emmerdale wins in my eyes!✌ #soapawards."

One commented: "Well as an #Emmerdale fan, this BSA's have been s***. This soap has done incredible things over the course of last year & this year and they truly deserved more reflection on that. Congrats to all the winners but I am hurting. @emmerdale you are still the best to me #soapawards."

Another tweeted: "The #SoapAwards isn't really a true reflection is it because only one of the awards is voted for by the actual public. Gutted for @emmerdale they deserved so much more but they are and always will be winners to me and i am SO proud of them all! #Emmerdale ❤❤❤xxxx."

This evening's ceremony aired live from the Lowry Theatre in Manchester and saw Hollyoaks' Gregory Finnegan, who plays James Nightingale, win Best Actor.

Coronation Street won the first gong of the night by being awarded Best Storyline for the aftermath of Aidan's suicide.
