Emmerdale fans point out problem in Sam Dingle theft storyline

Tonight's episode of Emmerdale saw Sam Dingle try to redeem himself after being caught stealing.

The doting grandad was strapped for cash but was adamant on being able to provide for his baby granddaughter, Esther. While his son, Samson, wants nothing to do with the infant, Sam is keen to have a positive impact on the child's life.

Sam approached Cain Dingle in last night's episode looking for advice on how to get more money to help with Esther's upbringing. Cain told his relative to "think outside the box".

As a result, Sam took it upon himself to rob the local shop, run by Eric Pollard. Things only went from bad to worse as Pollard got on to what the Dingle was doing and gave chase, but he tripped and fell - banging his head in the process.

While the shopkeeper is normally something of a father figure to Sam, their relationship quickly turned sour. Pollard decided to press charges for theft and assault leaving Sam panicking.

Tonight the Dingle sought forgiveness as he returned to the scene of the crime. While Pollard was still in hospital, Sam approached his son, David, and offered him an alternative to an olive branch - a pair of dead pheasants.

David realised Sam was hard up on money and rejected the gift but softened towards forgiving him. He later chatted to Pollard about the charges to see if he could change his mind.

But while the drama was ongoing, fans on Twitter were distracted as they spotted a problem. They questioned how the Dingle family were so poor as they explored the family's careers.

One user said: "How have the Dingles got no money? I vaguely recall a storyline from many many many moons ago where they got outright ownership of their house so no mortgage or rent. They all work, surely Zack gets his pension. They should be doing ok?! #emmerdale"

Carole said: "Dingles have no money yet eat in café? #emmerdale". Sophie said: "For a fam with no money the Dingles do have an extraordinary amount of hats #emmerdale."
