Emmerdale fans in tears as cast finally hug for real after months of social distancing

Emmerdale fans were in tears as they tuned into Thursday night's episode and witnessed actual hugging.

In a very emotional scene between Liv Flaherty and her brother Aaron, actors Isobel Steele and Danny Miller hugged one another for the first time in well over a year.

Liv was in hospital after getting blind drunk at Leanna's grave and choking on her own vomit.

Her and Aaron had fallen out the day before after he walked in on his sibling trying to seduce Jacob Gallagher.

However, when he found out that Liv had almost died, Aaron decided to put their row to one side and offer to help her with her alcoholism.

"What’s your plan then? You gonna run away and drink yourself to death?" Aaron asked her as he entered the hospital room.

"Hopefully not," Liv replied sarcastically. "It’s fine Aaron, I’m not your problem anymore.

"This is my fault, the way I treated you and everyone else for that matter. I was out of control and now I’ve ruined my life," she added.

"You can’t give up. I just want the old you back. The funny, stroppy one," Aaron told her as she fought back tears.

"You’re just drifting, you need a proper job and a reason to get up in the morning. Come home with me and we’ll sort things out," he urged her.

He then said: "Liv, I could never hate you. After everything with Paul, I’ve watched you fall apart. Running away isn’t gonna solve things. We all do things we regret.

"All you need to do is concentrate on getting sober. Is this something you think you can do? Because no one else can do it for you?"

"I wanna beat this," she told him, as he asked her: "Do you mean that?"

"It’s not gonna be easy, some days I’m gonna struggle but I’ve been here before haven’t I? But I need your help," she admitted.

"Of course I’ll help you. From now I’m going to be by your side every step of the way and whatever happens, we face it together," he told her before getting up to hug Liv.

Viewers tuning in at home were emotional watching the touching scene and took to Twitter to comment.

"That was a beautiful scene with Aaron & Liv and it was awesome to see hugging again!! #Emmerdale @emmerdale," one person posted.

Another wrote: "I’m glad they have got rid of the social distancing on #Emmerdale."

And a third added: "So weird seeing characters hug in soaps but I have missed that #Emmerdale."

Another penned: "So glad that we got too see a hug between Aaron and Liv #Emmerdale."

Someone else simply posted: "A hug! shook #Emmerdale."
