Emmerdale viewers were horrified when vicar Harriet Finch accepted her ex boyfriend Will Fletcher's marriage proposal.
She said yes - despite the fact she recently had a steamy romp in the Church with her ex, corrupt cop DI Malone.
Not only that, Harriet insisted that Will be honest with her from now on in their relationship - but totally failed to mention her recent fling.
Down on one knee, still battered and bruised Will told Harriet: "I know this is a bit of a surprise."
"Yeah, no kidding," replied Harriet.
"It's only you I want to be with," said Will.
When shocked Harriet failed to respond, Will stood back up and began backtracking, admitting perhaps this was a bad idea.
But he insisted to Harriet that he was getting counselling and would give her everything she ever wanted.
"It's always been you, no one else," he told the vicar.
He said fear had previously ruled his life, particularly his fear of losing Harriet, and she assured him that he had not lost her.
"You're the love of my life," he said.
"Maybe a clean slate would do us both a world of good," replied Harriet.
Harriet told him that if she was to accept the proposal, they would need to be "completely honest" with each other from now on.
But she failed to mention her previous relationship, and recent romp with Malone, who got Will caught up in a drugs ring and left him beaten and bloody.
"So, maybe getting married isn't such a bad idea after all," said Harriet - and the pair announced their news to Will's daughter Dawn.
" #Harriett is a fine one to be talking about honesty," wrote one angry viewer.
"Harriet is just stringing Will along #Emmerdale " quipped another.

A fifth remarked: "If only Will knew what Harriet has done. #Emmerdale ".
