Emmerdale fans gobsmacked as huge star turns up as Dianne Sugden's date

Emmerdale fans were left gobsmacked last night after a huge TV star appeared in the most recent episode of the ITV soap.

Long standing character Diane Sugden decided it was time to get back on the dating scene as she met up with Michael for a drink in The Woolpack.

Unfortunately, Michael's sexist comments meant the date didn't run as smoothly as Diane had hoped, Liverpool Echo reports.

The date went from bad to worse when Michael took out a jigsaw and later accused Diane of stealing a piece.

Thankfully, Rodney Blackstock saw the goings-on and stepped in to rescue Diane from the ordeal, ordering Michael to leave.

Drama aside, viewers couldn't believe Diane's date Michael was non other than Doctor Who star Colin Baker.

Taking to social media to share their disbelief as they recognised the star.

One Emmerdale fan said: "Tuned into #Emmerdale to see Colin Baker in action, and I must say that a jigsaw-obsessed misogynist was not what I was expecting!! So random."

A second added: "Great scene between Colin Baker & Elizabeth Estensen."

A third penned: "Colin Baker looking really amazing."

While another tweeted: "Colin baker is a hoot in #emmerdale."

Another viewer said: "What the bleeding hell is Colin Baker doing on here."

Speaking about his Emmerdale appearance, Colin said: “I am so old that I remember watching Emmerdale Farm long before it became just Emmerdale when my friend (and colleague from Doctor Who days) Frazer Hines was a youthful Joe Sugden and the wonderful Arthur Pentelow was in the cast.

"So to get a call to join the cast, albeit briefly, as a possible love interest for Elizabeth Estenson, an actress I had long admired, certainly appealed to me.

"A bonus was the fact that also in my scenes was Rodney Blackstock, played by my old friend Patrick Mower.

"I enjoyed my covid compliant time with both of them in Leeds inordinately. As to what happened, well you'll just have to watch and find out. It's a bit of a puzzle actually."
