Emmerdale fans demand more as unlikely character becomes a 'hero'

Many Emmerdale fans were making the same request during Thursday's instalment of the long-running ITV soap.

Wednesday's episode saw Charity get her husband-to-be a replica A-Team van as a wedding present. And the couple, both in full fancy dress, started to get romantic parked on a country road.

But things soon cooled down when they were arrested, as it turned out the van had been involved in a robbery.

PC Swirling had no choice to arrest them, and later told them to get comfy as they wouldn't be leaving any time soon. The next day, Charity and Mackenzie were pleasantly surprised to be released from the cells, but realised it was too late to get married.

Mackenzie and Charity pleaded for Cain to stall Charles, and then the A-team van roared into view with none other than PC Swirling behind the wheel. It turned out he is a huge fan and wanted to help them, after some persuasion from Moira.

As PC Swirling drove them back to the village, decked in full A-team fancy dress, many soap fans made the same plea. Taking to Twitter, Penny said: "Okay we need Swirling as a full time character", while Vicky said: "Make Swirling a more prominent character! Give him a first name!"

Cat said: "LOVE Swirling. Love him", and Jamie said: "SWIRLING!!! THE LEGEND". Maria said: "Please give Swirling a house in the village and proper storylines. He's earned it".
