Emmerdale fans convinced they know who dies this week following return of Rodney Blackstock

Emmerdale fans are convinced they now know which character meets their end this week after last night's episode saw the return of long-standing character, Rodney Blackstock.

Rodney, who is played by actor, Patrick Mower, made a subtle return to our screens last night after being absent for a number of months.

The ITV soap star slipped in practically unnoticed but eagle-eyed viewers were quick to spot the Emmerdale legend.

His return was addressed when son-in-law Jimmy King asked his wife Nicola: "Your dad still in bed?"

But he was in fact not in bed, but over at the cafe covering for Brenda Walker.

Rodney was later caught having a little snooze on the job and was startled to see him before joking he thought he was "back on Bondi," suggesting he had been in Australia.

And fans are convinced that his return is a sign of things to come.

Rodney's "convenient" return has sparked speculation after it was confirmed that at least one character will be killed off the soap this week as the biggest stunt in over a year plays out on screen.

One fan commented: "Rodney back makes me think Nicola dies #Emmerdale."

"Is Rodney back just in time for Nicola to die? I hope not #Emmerdale," a third questioned.

The unmissable week kicked off last night with with a 999 being heard before a dramatic flashforward of three different hospital beds.

Viewers will learn who the occupants are as the week pans out but the explosive scenes will end in the demise of at least one villager.
