Emmerdale family set for heartache as one character 'faces rest of life in prison'

Emmerdale could be about to air devastation for one family, and a heartbreaking exit for one character.

Details are being kept under wraps, but later this year one resident faces spending the rest of their life behind bars.

Something happens during the 50th anniversary episodes in October, that leads to at least one character facing trouble with the law.

Whether they will be sent to prison or not is yet to be revealed, while it's also not clear what leads to this and what the crime is.

What is known is that one family in particular will take centre stage as the 50th drama comes to a close, and continues into a whole new set of storylines.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, soap producer Jane Hudson spilled on what was ahead, as a devastating storm causes havoc in the village amid other ongoing storylines.

With lives on the line, and characters left seriously injured, it's also been teased there could be some deaths on the way.

But whether this is linked to the mystery crime committed that leads to the possible jail time is not yet known.

"And then we will work our way into our storm week. And then, you know, when we get to the end of October, it might be the end of our celebrations, but we will be ending that month with a storyline which kicks off a whole new story and potentially sees one of our characters looking at spending the rest They're life in jail.

"And I'm not going to tell you anything else about that story. Don't ask me because I will not tell you.

"But we are absolutely making sure that when our celebration month ends, it really is just the beginning of a whole new chapter particularly for one of our families."

It comes as she also teased a murder could be on the cards, while remaining coy over whether this will happen.

She said: " There is always potential for a murder in Emmerdale, this is Emmerdale. You know, it's famous for its murders.

"It's Emmerdale so there's often a murderer lurking around the corner somewhere."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
