Vanessa Woodfield has been left with the impossible choice of choosing who should look after son Johnny in the event of her death on Emmerdale.
However the ITV soap has hinted that there are even more difficult times ahead for Vanessa after teasing that ex Kirin Kotecha's return could be on the horizon - and that he might try to get custody of Johnny.
Kirin is Johnny's father after being in a relationship with Vanessa, despite there being a 21 year age gap between them.
When Vanessa fell pregnant, she admitted that the baby could not be his after having a one night stand with Adam Barton during their break.
Vanessa took a DNA test and Rakesh, who did not approve of their relationship, made the most of the opportunity to get his son away from her and switched the results.
After being told that he wasn't the father, Kirin dumped Vanessa as he didn't feel as though he could be there for her when she has a baby with another man.
The next year, Kirin finally discovered that he was actually Johnny's father after Rakesh switched around the DNA results.
However Rakesh struggled to adapt to parenthood and later went out binge drinking, resulting in him being involved in a hit-and-run after accidentally killing Tess Harris.
Kirin fled the country and relocated to South America.
Most recently, Vanessa has been seeking legal advice after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.
Her biggest priority is assigning Johnny's legal guardian, a subject which has already resulted in many rows between the much-loved couple.
Next week, however, Charity will march into the HOP office next week as she demands to know Rakesh and Kirin's whereabouts.
Priya insists that she has no idea - will Charity be able to track them down and will Kirin come back to the village to reunite with his son?
