Emmerdale Diane Sugden actress Elizabeth Estensen's next acting move as she leaves soap role

As Emmerdale prepares to say goodbye to show legend Diane Sugden her alter ego Elizabeth Estensen has discussed what the future holds for the acting star.

Elizabeth, 72, will soon be leaving the village, and the role of Diane Sugden, after being an Emmerdale stalwart for 22 years. She’s been involved in some major storylines and enjoyed a memorable marriage to Jack Sugden as well as being the landlady of The Woolpack.

The star has previously discussed some of her most treasured memories from her time in Emmerdale, which includes meeting the Queen, and now she’s told our colleagues at The Mirror what she plans to do with her career next.

Elizabeth said: “I’m not retiring from acting altogether, I simply want to keep working if I can.

“People of my age that are greyhaired aren’t heavily featured in things any more. But I’d like to keep on working.”

Elizabeth starred in musicals back in the 1970s, played Carol Boswell in the Liver Birds for four years, had a two-year stint as Pam Middleton in Coronation Street back in the 1980s and appeared in a string of other hits like Casualty, A Touch of Frost and Last of the Summer Wine.

Hopefully, we might see her pop up in a few exciting acting roles in the coming months and years.

On leaving Emmerdale and bidding a fond farewell to Diane, said: “What I love about playing Diane is that she is not down at heel. Diane is very positive and loyal. I love the fact she has so much optimism. I admire her for always supporting others and being dependable."

We’ll bring you more on the emotional farewell to Diane Sugden when more details are announced.
