Emmerdale favourite Sheila Mercier was remembered on Monday night, following news of her death earlier this month.
On Monday, the ITV soap paid tribute to the soap legend, 100, who played Annie Sugden with a sweet message.
The original cast member was remembered at the very start, as the show dedicated the latest episode to her.
At the end, a message displayed on the screen along with an image of the village favourite.
It read: "Dedicated to Sheila Mercier. 1st January 1919 - 4th December 2019."
The message confirmed the actress had died earlier this month, with the announcement coming from telly bosses a week later.
Viewers praised the soap's sweet tribute, as they remembered the actress and her character.
One fan simply said: "R.I.P. Sheila Mercier."
Another tweeted: "Only just heard before tonight’s Emmerdale the sad news that Sheila Mercier who played Annie Sugden died the other day... What a legend."
A third added: "Dedicated to Sheila Mercier. RIP #Emmerdale ."
This was echoed by another fan who wrote: "Sheila mercier died 4 december ??? I thought she died last friday (13th) #emmerdale ?? whenever it was shes going to be missed ,my all time favourite soap actress, one hell of a legacy she created which I cant see ever being bettered !!"
A spokesperson from Emmerdale said: "Its always sad to hear of the death of an actor who played a significant part in Emmerdale’s success.
"Even more so when that actor was in the very first episode and around whose family the show was built. ‘Annie Sugden’ embodied all the virtues of Yorkshire...
"She was hard working, resilient, determined, down to earth and didn’t suffer fools gladly. Sheila had many of those qualities too, putting the needs of the programme above her own and always delivering a great performance come rain or shine. She will be greatly missed."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
