Emmerdale crew member tested for coronavirus after returning to work

An Emmerdale crew member was sent home after turning up to set with a high temperature.

The member of staff took a coronavirus test as part of new rules implemented on set.

Yorkshire-based soap Emmerdale was the first to return to filming following the loosening of lockdown, but have issued guidelines on set for cast and crew to follow.

This includes maintaining a two-meter distance and testing temperatures when on set.

ITV's Head of Soaps and Continuing Drama John Whiston spoke to Mirror TV and other news outlets about testing temperatures on set.

Asked would happen if a member of the cast had a temperature, he said: "This has happened in Emmerdale already with the system.

"So somebody's come in with a high temperature, they've talked to the medics about what the causes might be, they've gone home, they've logged into NHS England and they've got a test done and they've come back negative.

"I think that's reassuring and the majority of cases, that will be what will happen."

He added that they had "thought it all through" but the lack of Track and Trace was "concerning".

"Obviously we want to keep everyone safe but the temperature checking is pretty standard internationally. I think it will probably become more so in Britain."

Currently, Emmerdale is airing its special lockdown episodes, which has given it leeway to film new episodes after their pre-filmed ones air.

*Emmerdale airs Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm on ITV
