Emmerdale have confirmed the return of DS Wise, played by actor Neil Roberts, two years on from his last appearance.
The character was favoured by viewers, after he helped Aaron Dingle during his sexual abuse storyline.
After the return of his father Gordon Livesy, Aaron opened up to his mother Chas about being sexually abused by him when he was growing up.
DS Wise, who had a brief romance with Lucy Pargeter’s character Chas, helped bring Gordon to justice.

It’s now been confirmed the character is making a return, after eagle-eyed fans spotted his name on the cast list for upcoming episodes.
Digital Spy also confirmed a spokesperson for the soap revealed he would be back.
It’s not yet been confirmed why he is back in the Dales, with some wondering whether he will lead Maya’s case after her arrest following the reveal she's been grooming teenage stepson Jacob for months.
Others were just pleased to hear of his return, and praised the soap for their consistency with the police department.
Taking to Twitter , viewers began to speculate the reason for his return, with many convinced it ties in with Jacob’s grooming storyline, while one fan suggested he could be investigating Victoria Sugden’s harrowing rape.
One fan said: “According to next weeks cast list DS Wise is back. I’m presuming it’s about Jacob but would love to see him and Aaron share some scenes.”
Another speculated: “It could be Jacob's [storyline] as he helped with Aaron's abuse storyline.”
A third agreed: “Think he'll be in charge of the Jacob/Maya investigation.”
Meanwhile, another fan said: “Wow, DS Wise is back in #Emmerdale soon I wonder if he's investigating Vic's rape. Should be interesting seeing #chaddy reaction and Aaron's on his return.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
