Emmerdale Christmas Day horror as Meena and Manpreet feared dead in pub explosion

It wasn't a very happy Christmas for sisters Manpreet Sharma and Meena Jutla as the village's beloved Woolpack pub was blown up - leaving them both lifeless under the rubble.

Yet it wasn't going to well before the building went up in flames after doctor Manpreet became the first person in the village to realise that her sister was a psychotic killer.

But Manpreet made the crucial error of confronting the serial killer rather than contacting the police.

The doctor, played by Rebecca Sarker, started getting suspicious after Meena finally opened up about the death of her friend, who she claimed killed herself.

However, Manpreet got in contact with the friend's sister Carol, who suggested that Meena may have had something to do with her death.

Later, Meena continued plotting to get her revenge against love rival Dawn, who she believes stole boyfriend Billy away from her.

While she was in the middle of a phone call to Social Services to report Dawn, Manpreet interrupted her by grabbing the phone and killed the call.

Furious ay being caught in the act but determined not to let it show, Meena played the concerned neighbour and while Manpreet initially bought it, she reassessed the situation.

As Meena tried to break into Dawn's home to plant Heroin, she was interrupted again by her sister who demanded that she "stop lying".

"You report Dawn to Social Services and now you're breaking into her house," Manpreet pointed out.

Meena demanded that she "wasn't putting up with this anymore" and as she walked away, Manpreet grabbed her and the nurse dropped a bag of drugs.

Elsewhere, Al plotted to blow up the Woolpack to ensure that he would be able to convert the pub into an apartment block.

The devious businessman appeared to try and set Marlon up by planting a whisk in the microwave and turn on the gas stoves, hoping that the spark would cause an explosion.

Meanwhile, Manpreet pointed out that she had caught Meena "red-handed".

"So you want her to lose her son and her boyfriend," Manpreet fumed. "To what end? Another fake suicide?"

"Ah, I should have known Carol would get in your head," Meena said. "This is what she does - she plants seeds."

But Manpreet wasn't buying it as she said: "Whatever this is, Meena, it needs to stop and I'll get you help. Otherwise I'll tell everyone what I've seen."

Fuming, Meena asked who would believe her after her text message debacle - to which Manpreet suggested that while the village might not believe her, the police would.

Manpreet then announced that she knew her sister wasn't pregnant: "So you're a liar and a fantasist... yay!"

Manpreet was left terrified by her encounter with Meena (ITV)

She then declared that unless Meena gave her proof that she was pregnant, she would tell everyone about the fake pregnancy, what happened with her friend Nadine and what she was doing now.

Smirking, Meena said: "I was going to let you go, but classic you had to get all up in my business. Big mistake, huge."

"This isn't you," Manpreet pleaded with her. "I've known you all your life. You're selfish, yeah, but you're not all bad."

As Meena cornered her, she grinned: "No one knows everything. There's always that little bit that you keep to yourself."

Smashing a bottle, Meena neared her sister with the broken glass as she said: "Don't worry, I won't let you suffer for much longer."

Manpreet ran away and tried to bang on a door for help, but Meena chuckled darkly as she said that no one was home.

As she neared her sister, however, the Woolpack exploded in flames, leaving the sisters buried under the rubble.

Have Meena and Manpreet both been killed?
