Emmerdale character offers cryptic hint teasing return of fan favourite

The return of an Emmerdale favourite has been teased.

The scene played out following the engagement of Liam Cavanagh and Leyla Harding in the ITV soap.

Viewers saw Meena Jutla, played by Paige Sandhu, have a massive row with David Metcalfe, played by Matthew Wolfenden, for his role in helping with the proposal. The Express report this resulted in a cryptic conversation about a possible return of Alicia Metcalfe.

Alicia, played by Natalie Anderson, was in Emmerdale between 2010 and 2015.

“David, if you’re thinking of binning me off can you at least have the decency to do it to my face?” Meena asked and a confused David replied: “Why do you say that?”

“Every time I tell you I love you, you tell me to get lost,” she continued and he argued he didn’t.

“You need space, same difference,” Meena added.

David remarked: “Have you forgotten how you behaved yesterday?”

“I apologised for that, profusely, even though it wasn’t entirely my fault,” viewers saw Meena say.

“Excuse me? But how am I to blame?” The shopkeeper questioned and his girlfriend explained: “It’s not normal to be pally with your exes, I’ve not spoken a word to Jeremy since our divorce, which is the way it should be. But you, Leyla lives in your house!”

“Exactly! So if we’d have wanted to get together we would’ve hooked up ages ago,” David exclaimed.

And Meena went on: “It’s not just Leyla, though, is it? There's Priya, Tracy, Victoria that Geordie girl who is always sniffing around. I can’t walk down the street without tripping over one of your exes.”

“Actually, Vic and Amy aren’t exes,” David corrected and Meena continued: “You still try to flirt the pants off them. I bet, if Alicia jumped on a plane from Portugal you’d welcome her with open arms.”

“Yes I would,” he replied. “Because she’s a mate and she’s Jacob’s mum and I don’t turn my back on people I care about. You shouldn’t expect me to.”

“I tell you what, maybe we should end it, once I’m your ex-girlfriend, maybe you will appreciate me,” Meena finished.

We don’t know whether this was teasing a possible return of Alicia to cause yet more trouble for Meena and David. We’ll keep you posted.

Last month, Natalie Anderson discussed the inspiration for her role of Alicia.

"He (Steve November who recruited Alicia for Emmerdale) said 'the heels need to be higher than high, the skirts need to be shorter than short. She needs to have attitude. She needs to be brash. We want that kind of aggressive almost, Katie Price, brash exterior, and then we'll get to know her a bit later on’.”

"I went 'Oh, I don't think I can do this'. I think you do have to hit the ground running and it was scary for me."
