Emmerdale cast have been pushing for time change 'for a long time'

An Emmerdale legend has revealed that the soap's cast have been clamouring for a change in the ITV schedule for years.

It was announced that from this week, soap fans can catch the latest episodes at 7:30pm instead of the usual 7pm and will also air an hour-long episode on Thursday instead of two half-hour slots.

But it's not just ITV that have been wanting to make the judgement.

But as the Mirror reports, Tony Audenshaw, who has played Bob Hope since 2010, shared that the cast have actually been keen on the 7:30pm time slot "for a long, long time" and now, they finally have it.

Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty Barton, said of the change: "Judging from my mum – she's chuffed to bits because it's going to give her time to get home, get the dinner cooked, ready in time to watch at 7.30pm.

"Since the 70s it's been seven o'clock so it's a huge change but it's going to be a good one. I think it's going to give people more time to sit down and watch it."

Emmerdale will be celebrating its 50th anniversary later this year and the iconic pub The Woolpack will have a major revamp.
