Emmerdale cast 2023: Who is leaving, joining and returning to the ITV soap this year?

Emmerdale has been packed with dramatic storyline and shock bombshell news from surprise babies to unexpected exits.

Last year the soap marked its 50th Anniversary which saw a number of characters leave the hit ITV soap. With a number of residents leaving and entering the Yorkshire village It can be difficult to keep up with the ever-changing cast list.

To keep viewers on their toes, show bosses love to surprise fans with shock exits and new arrivals, so here is a full cast list as well as stars we can expect to exit and make a reappearance.

Who is leaving Emmerdale?

Naomi Walters played by Karene Peters

Actress Karene Peters has quit her role as Naomi in Emmerdale and will leave the village this summer just a year after her arrival.

Sources claim Naomi won't be killed off, meaning the door will remain open for her return. According to Daily Mail, an insider said: “Karene's loved her time on the soap but it is time for her to go.

“Being on Emmerdale was a dream but she became an actor to play different roles and that's exactly what she wants to do.”

Who is joining Emmerdale?

Claudette played by Flo Wilson

Emmerdale's Anderson Family is set to get even bigger this year, with Flo Wilson joining the cast as Charles' formidable mother Claudette.

Jane Hudson, executive producer, said: “We are delighted to welcome Flo Wilson to the cast of Emmerdale. Her talent and experience will bring a new dimension to the show, and we can't wait for viewers to see her in action. She's certainly going to ruffle feathers in the Anderson household.”

Wilson added: “I feel blessed that I was chosen to play Claudette and I hope to make the Emmerdale family proud of the work that I will do.”

Who is returning to Emmerdale?

Last year Emmerdale actress Amy left te soap to begin her maternity leave, and has since welcomed her first child with partner Toby-Alexander Smith.

While Tracy made a brief return to the village last year for Emmerdale's 50th Anniversary, it's hoped that she will permenantly reprise her role in the coming months.

She recently confirmed that she will be returning to our screens as she announced the news on Instagram with a sweet snap of her childs hand.

Kerry Wyatt played by Laura Norton

Actress Laura Norton is also on maternity leave from Emmerdale after welcoming her second child last year.

Kerry was devastated when she learned her boyfriend Al Chapman was cheating on her with Chas Dingle before his death, and left the village to work on a cruise ship.

It hasn’t been confirmed if she will make a return but plenty of drama could bring Kerry back to Emmerdale, including daughter Chloe welcoming a son with Charity Dingle's husband Mackenzie.

Her daughter Amy has also been fighting for custody of her son Kyle, after he was cleared of accidentally shooting Al.

Vanessa Woodfield played by Michelle Hardwick

Michelle Hardwick temporarily left Emmerdale in November 2022 to go on maternity leave, and has since welcomed her second child with Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks.

Vanessa decided to leave the village after being offered a new job in Canada, bringing an end to her romance with Suzy Merton.

Before leaving the village, Vanessa managed to make amends with her friend Rhona, and fans hope they will see her back in the soap soon.

Many will also be hoping she could rekindle her fan-favourite romance with Charity, who has just discovered her husband Mackenzie cheated on her.
