Emmerdale actress Samantha Giles has hinted that her character Bernice Blackstock could be killed off-screen following her "disappointing" exit last year.
Unlucky-in-love Bernice was a firm fan favourite before her sudden departure last year and ditched her lover Dr Liam Cavanagh.
Bernice had been about to walk down the aisle when she was contacted about her ex-husband in Australia, who had been involved in a life-threatening accident.
She jetted off across seas to help him, leaving her fiancé and daughter.
Dr Cavanagh has since moved on with Bernice's friend Leyla and the actress has since responded to viewers who were unhappy with her lacklustre exit.
Chatting to Inside Soap, Samantha suggested that she would have preferred if Bernice was killed off.
She said: "If she had been killed, perhaps I'd have got a better exit story as it was a little disappointing.
"I had quite a lot of people on Twitter saying that they felt a bit cheated by the way Bernice left, but it's done now. You can't please everyone!"
Could her comments give soap bosses the green light to kill Bernice off-screen?
This comes as Dr Cavanagh is left feeling depressed after his split from Leyla.
He returns from his murder mystery retreat looking forlorn and his daughter Leanna feels sorry for him.
