Emmerdale actress Gaynor Faye quits in shock exit after seven years

Long-standing Emmerdale star Gaynor Faye has confirmed she's quit the soap after seven years.

Emmerdale is set to line up a shock exit for Faye's character, Megan Macey, but we'll have to wait and see for what exactly they have in store.

Speaking to OK! magazine, the 47-year-old revealed that she wants to explore other projects.

"It's a risk. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone. I’ve always been the type of person who doesn’t want to stay playing the same character for too long," she said.

Megan is shortly set to become mixed up in a custody battle with her ex-husband, Jai Sharma, after being involved in a car accident with Eric Pollard.

While driving, Megan sent a text to Frank Clayton assuring him that she was on her way, but her lack of concentration causes her crash into the back of Jamie Tate's car.

But Gaynor said although her character Megan was unharmed in the crash, she herself suffered whiplash after taking part in the stunt.

Opening up about the consequences for Megan, Gaynor teased that her character could face jail.

"I don't think it'd be a great place for her, I think she'd definitely get into a lot of trouble in prison," she said. "But that could be a good thing – it'd be great to play. We have got a little prison set because so many people go to prison on this show."

Megan Macey has been a central character for the soap with story lines including the complex birth of her daughter Eliza, her feud with Charity Dingle, and her heated relationships with Frank Clayton and Graham Foster.

The date and exact storyline of Megan Macey's exit is yet to be confirmed.
