Emmerdale actor explains why Nate takes the blame for Belle despite huge risk

Emmerdale actor Jurell Carter has explained an upcoming twist, as Nate Robinson offers to take the blame for the recent hit-and-run.

Viewers of the ITV soap know that it was Jamie Tate who was driving the car that hit Moira Dingle, almost killing her.

After his then-girlfriend Belle Dingle shopped him to the police with the help of nephew Nate, Jamie got his own back and set the pair up for the crime.

Belle appears to be framed in upcoming scenes, with it looking likely she will go to prison amid her battle with her mental health.

Realising she won't cope if she goes to prison again, with her hearing voices again, Nate steps up to save her by offering to take the blame for the crime.

"He knows that if he doesn’t take the rap, Belle will go to prison herself. So he takes the rap cos he knows it’s gonna go that way."

On whether he is simply doing it to impress his father Cain Dingle after their fractured relationship, Jurell downplayed this.

He said: "No I genuinely think it’s because of his relationship with Belle, he doesn’t take into consideration him and Cain’s relationship.

"Yeah it’d be a bonus! But he’s not considering that, he just has love and care for Belle.

"Initially it's literally down to Belle’s mental health and how she’s struggling, he wants to help her out."

Nate will learn more about Belle's battle with schizophrenia ahead of him making a big decision.

Jurell said: "I think he knew she had struggles but not the extent of what she was dealing with.

"Even in a scene with Nate and Sam where he goes into detail about her trying to kill herself – it’s a massive surprise. He has real compassion for her and wants to be there for her."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
