Emmerdale 50th spoilers: Tragic deaths, village destroyed and major soap first

Emmerdale is lining up big scenes in just a matter of weeks, as the show's 50th anniversary episodes air.

There's a deadly windstorm that causes chaos in the village, and leaves lives on the line - with reported deaths too.

Full details about the big week in particular will be revealed very soon, while some spoilers have been released - including a death and three big returns set to air this week and next.

Ahead of more gossip about those at risk and what exactly happens, here's a look at everything we know so far about the ITV soap's huge milestone.

Special episode and a month of drama

Emmerdale is lining up big scenes in just a matter of weeks (ITV)

It's been confirmed that this October, the soap will air a month of storylines and drama to celebrate the 50th. There will also be a huge week amongst this, as the storm leaves lives in the balance and destroys the village.

Emmerdale's birthday will fall on a Sunday, on 16 October. There will be a special hour-long episode on this day to mark the milestone, while it normally airs Monday to Friday.

The full schedule has not yet been revealed, but we expect the show will air on its normal days, with Sunday's episode being an extra episode.

Deaths 'confirmed'

Faith Dingle dies next week (ITV)

Faith Dingle dies next week on the ITV soap, as she takes her own life amid her cancer battle.

It's also been revealed there could be multiple deaths during the big storm week, as one cast member teased more than one funeral - while no details have been announced by ITV.

That said, recent reports suggested Liv Flaherty could be killed off, with actress Isobel Steele reportedly leaving the show after six years.

Village destroyed as lives changed forever

It's thought the village will be destroyed both literally and figuratively, as the raging storm brings chaos to the Dales.

Lives will be changed and so will the village it seems, as a new image released by the soap shows the storm in full swing.

The familiar village is littered with branches, debris and rocks, as trees sway in the heavy wind - while it's not yet known how much damage is caused to the area.

Huge returns

Aaron Dingle, Diane Sugden and Tracy Metcalfe will all make a brief return (ITV)

Aaron Dingle, Diane Sugden and Tracy Metcalfe will all make a brief return for storylines this month, with a "huge" story ahead for one of the three.

Danny Miller quit the soap as Aaron last year, but he's already back in the village - and could find himself embroiled in two key storylines.

Tracy actress Amy Walsh has been on maternity leave, after her final scenes aired in January, and her brief return airs later this week - with a permanent return planned for later down the line.

As for Diane, soap legend Elizabeth Estensen bowed out last year after more than 20 years on the ITV soap, as she retired.

But next week, Diane will be back to say a final goodbye to her pal Faith Dingle. Viewers are speculating other returns could be on the cards, including Robert Sugden.

Key storylines

One thing yet to be confirmed is whether pregnant teen Amelia Spencer will give birth during the big episodes (ITV)

One thing yet to be confirmed is whether pregnant teen Amelia Spencer will give birth during the big episodes. What is known is that she will be in danger as the storm hits the village.

Producer Jane Hudson recently spilled: "Amelia is due soon, and whether or not she has the baby in the 50th celebrations I'm obviously not going to tell you. But Amelia does play a very big part in the storm and when she needs to be found, because she's stuck on her own, she does play a very big part."

There's also set to be a stunt or story that "only Emmerdale can do", and that hasn't been done before.

Jane teased: "There is one element that trust me nobody has done, and no other soap could do it apart from Emmerdale because of where we are."

A showdown between love rivals Kim Tate and Harriet Finch after recent drama (ITV)

Referring to specific characters, she went on: "There is a story, which involves Nate, Sam and Belle, which is the one that only Emmerdale can do. And that's going to dominate quite a lot of the 50th as well."

Also on the cards, is a showdown between love rivals Kim Tate and Harriet Finch after recent drama.

It's known that Kim and Will Taylor's wedding will air during the 50th celebrations, and that his ex Harriet will try to stop him going through with it.

Katherine Dow Blyton hinted her character Harriet is "playing with fire " following a recent threat from the village villain.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
