Emmanuel Sanders says he won’t restructure contract with Broncos

Emmanuel Sanders has no interest in restructuring his contract with the Denver Broncos. The veteran wide receiver made that clear in a tweet on Tuesday afternoon.

Sanders, 31, is set to have a base salary of $10.25 million this year and a cap hit of $12,937,500, according to Spotrac.com. Because Sanders is recovering from an Achilles injury, the Broncos may not want to pay him that much in 2019.

If Denver cuts Sanders, it would cost the team $2,687,500 in dead money. Releasing Sanders would give the Broncos a net savings of $10.25 million toward the salary cap this season.

Despite his age, Sanders has remained productive. He hauled in 71 receptions for 868 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games last season. Sanders also rushed for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass in 2018.

If Denver does bring Sanders back, it seems likely that he will keep his current contract.
