Emmanuel Sanders reacts to fan’s tweet about trade rumor: ‘It is what it is’

Denver Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders had a nonchalant response when a fan tweeted him that she read a rumor about him possibly being traded this offseason.

The tweet Sanders was responding to has been deleted because, as the fan explained, she “jumped the gun after only reading 1 article.” That article was actually talking about Sanders’ contract situation, not his trade status.

Sanders has one year remaining on his contract but Denver could release him this offseason and save around $10.25 million in 2019 salary cap space. Because he’s 31 years old and coming off a torn Achilles injury, Sanders probably doesn’t have much trade value at the moment.

So the Broncos seem unlikely to trade Sanders but it is possible that he could be cut. Denver needs to decide on his 2019 option by the time the new league year begins on March 13. Before tearing his Achilles, Sanders caught 71 passes for 868 yards and scored six touchdowns in 12 games last season.
