Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has told his old club to sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace this summer.
Zaha has told the Eagles that he wants to leave the club, according to The Times, and the Gunners have long been linked with the Ivorian winger.
With just two years remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park, the 28-year-old could be sold by Palace in the coming weeks as they look to receive as much money as possible for their prized asset.
Arsenal reportedly tried to sign Zaha two summers ago, as well as Premier League rivals Everton, but both were put off by Palace's valuation of their wide man.
Now, ex-Gunners star Petit has been speaking about how his former club are lacking someone like Zaha, who can excite the supporters.
Speaking this week to bookmakers Paddy Power, he said: "When I played for Arsenal in the late 90s, we had Marc Overmars, Sylvain Wiltord and Robert Pires – these players were so exciting to watch.
"Zaha is an unpredictable player, you don’t know what he’s going to do with the ball.
"He’s got a strong character, and sometimes he needs to control of his emotions, but he’s exactly the kind of player Arsenal need.
"He’d get the fans excited and stimulate his own team-mates too.
"For ages, Arsenal haven’t had a player who could dribble or make a difference with the ball at his feet.
"With Zaha, they would have somebody capable of taking responsibility and not scared to take on defenders."
The former Manchester United winger scored 11 goals and provided two assists for Crystal Palace in the Premier League throughout the 2020/21 season.
football.london understands the Gunners are set for a massive squad overhaul this summer following a very disappointing campaign, with the club finishing in eighth in the Premier League table.
The form of Nicolas Pepe towards the back end of the 2020/21 season was very encouraging for Arsenal fans and the proposition of Zaha joining him in attack is a very exciting one.
