Emmanuel Petit agrees with Micah Richards’ ‘scary’ Erling Haaland Chelsea prediction

Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has agreed with Micah Richards on the opinion that Erling Haaland could transform the Blues into title contenders should he arrive at Stamford Bridge.

The Norwegian has been strongly linked with a switch to Chelsea throughout the summer with current boss Thomas Tuchel reportedly keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Various reports have speculated that the Blues are in the process of securing a deal with some even suggesting that personal terms have been agreed on.

Should that be the case, Petit can envisage a strong title challenge from the reigning European champions next season.

Talking to Paddy Power, he said: "Chelsea need a new striker and someone who scores lots of goals. Erling Haaland is the answer. He’s strong, powerful and young with a bright future in front of him.

“Haaland’s value is already very high, and connections with Tuchel increase his chance of joining Chelsea.

“Offensively, he could become the finisher that Chelsea really need. I can imagine his relationship with (Mason) Mount, (Kai) Havertz, (Christian) Pulisic and (Hakim) Ziyech making him score lots of goals at Stamford Bridge.

“Chelsea need a top striker, it’s as simple as that.”

Meanwhile, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards also gave a similar assessment on the prospect of Chelsea signing Haaland, stating that he could be the missing piece for Tuchel.

Talking to the BBC back in March, he said: “I think they've [Chelsea] got absolutely everything. They've sorted their defensive problems.

“The only thing to add that little bit of icing to the cake would be a striker. They've put (Timo) Werner in there, they've put Havertz in there.

“It seems like they've not really cracked that offensive aspect of the game. I'm not going to speculate but if you put Haaland in this team, they'll be scary next season.”
