Emmanuel Butler exits practice early after awkward landing

The New Orleans Saints have seen plenty to be encouraged about from rookie wide receiver Emmanuel Butler, a Northern Arizona product who has strung together a series of tough catches in each practice of training camp. He’s certainly caught the attention of Saints quarterback Drew Brees and head coach Sean Payton.

However, Butler exited Tuesday’s practice early after sliding to make a contested catch and getting tangled up with a defensive back. He was able to get back to his feet after receiving attention from team training staff and left the field under his own power, heading to the locker room. It’s encouraging that Butler was able to recover quickly and move into the locker room without assistance. Saints players have the day off tomorrow, so this is a good opportunity for rookies like Butler to recover, review their first week on the job, and prepare for the next practice session. It’ll be fascinating to see if Butler’s success continues later into the training camp and the slate of Saints preseason games.
