Emmanuel Adebayor reunites with former Man City teammate after surprise transfer

Former Manchester City forward Emmanual Adebayor has signed for Paraguayan side Olimpia and will link up with former teammate Roque Santa Cruz.

The 35-year-old left Turkish side Kayserispor in December and his move to the South American side was announced by the club on Tuesday.

The announcement came four days after club president Marco Trovato promised to sign the ex-City man if the club signed up an additional 20,000 members over the weekend.

Olimpia is Adebayor's tenth professional club having featured for clubs in England, Spain, France and Turkey before making his latest move.

The centre forward will link up with former Blue Santa Cruz who has been at the club for four years. Adebayor and Santa Cruz both arrived in Manchester in the summer of 2009 after being signed by Mark Hughes and spent 18 months together before they both left the club on loan.

Santa Cruz, 38, rejoined his hometown club Olimpia in 2016 and has scored 45 goals in 109 league games.

Adebayor's move has also led to the suggestion that Yaya Toure could also be on his way to South America. Adebayor's agent, Rodrigo Codas, said the Ivory Coast veteran could also make the move.

"I've spoken to Yaya's agent and he asked me to look for a team in Paraguay and Brazil. He's great friends with Adebayor, he could come here," Codas told the D10 website.
