Emma Watson sparks engagement rumours after showing off diamond ring

Emma Watson has sparked engagement rumours after being spotted wearing a diamond ring during Paris Fashion Week.

The Harry Potter star, 35, was photographed arriving at the Miu Miu show at the Palais d’Iéna wearing a vintage-style ring with a large central gem, prompting speculation that she may be engaged to her boyfriend, Kieran Brown.

Watson and Brown, 30, are believed to have met while studying at Oxford University and have quietly been dating for over a year.

Brown is currently pursuing a PhD, while Watson has been completing her master’s degree at Oxford after taking a break from acting.

At the event, Watson kept her look simple and polished in a brown suede jacket, nude shift dress and minimal makeup, allowing the striking ring to stand out as her only piece of jewellery.

The actress has previously spoken about her evolving views on love and marriage.

In a recent conversation with Jay Shetty, she said that while she hopes to get married one day, she doesn’t see it as something she’s entitled to.

“It will either be part of my purpose here and my destiny, or it won’t,” she said.

Watson also reflected on societal expectations around marriage, calling the pressure on women to wed “a form of violence and cruelty.”

The Standard has contacted Watson’s rep for comment.

Elsewhere, the actress was accused of “pouring petrol on the flames” when JK Rowling faced death threats over her views on trans rights.

Last month, Rowling turned on Watson in a lengthy message posted on social media after the Harry Potter star said she “loves” the children’s author, 60, and “refuses to cancel her” in a recent podcast - despite not agreeing with her views on trans people.

Rowling previously said she won’t “forgive” the fantasy film franchise’s child stars - Watson, Rupert Grint, and Daniel Radcliffe - for criticising her views.

And the writer doubled down on her opinion of Watson, claiming she was “ignorant”, led a “cushioned life”, and had “poured petrol” on the online hate towards her.

Rowling quoted a video from Sex Matters, which discussed Watson and Rowling’s relationship on GB News, and wrote on X: “I’m seeing quite a bit of comment about this, so I want to make a couple of points.

“I’m not owed eternal agreement from any actor who once played a character I created. The idea is as ludicrous as me checking with the boss I had when I was twenty-one for what opinions I should hold these days.”

Emma Watson and her co-stars have every right to embrace gender identity ideology. Such beliefs are legally protected, and I wouldn’t want to see any of them threatened with loss of work, or violence, or death, because of them,” Rowling went on.

“However, Emma and Dan [Radcliffe] in particular have both made it clear over the last few years that they think our former professional association gives them a particular right – nay, obligation – to critique me and my views in public.

“Years after they finished acting in Potter, they continue to assume the role of de facto spokespeople for the world I created. When you’ve known people since they were ten years old it’s hard to shake a certain protectiveness.”

JK Rowling has previously been accused of being transphobic for her views on gender identity and for saying trans women should not be allowed into female-only spaces.

In 2024 the writer challenged police in Scotland, where she lives, to arrest her under a new hate crime law after she described several trans women as men. Police took no action.

She has denied being transphobic, saying she respects “every trans person's right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them”.
