Emma Timmins Highland Dance School travel to Spain for Festival Interceltico De Aviles event

Members of Emma Timmins Highland Dance School joined Strathaven and District Pipe Band at Festival Interceltico De Aviles Y Comarca in Aviles, Spain.

This was the third time the Stonehouse dance school had taken part in the event, the previous one being in 2017.

Emma said: “Myself and four dancers – Katy Evans, Sarah-Louise Martin, Kyla Gorman and Kirsten Lang (pictured right) – went over, Strathaven and District Pipe Band and Chris Mackenzie their Pipe Major invited us.

“We have a good connection with them and good links to them, and dance for them quite a lot at events and things like that.

“We went seven years ago with Stonehouse Pipe Band, and then with Strathaven and District two years ago, and they asked us to go over again.

“We were joined by groups from Asturies in Spain and Belfast, performing every night to audiences in Aviles and nearby villages.

“The girls loved it, it was a great experience, but it was hard work as well, performing two and three times a night sometimes. The Celtic links and getting to meet people from different nationalities and different cultures made it all worth it though.”

The festival ran from July 20-28, with the band and dancers performing from July 21-27.
