Emma Thompson attends Earthshot Prize with royals as hubby Greg Wise leaves Strictly

Emma Thompson cut a glamorous figure on the green carpet at the 2021 Earthshot Prize on Sunday night, as her husband Greg Wise was given his marching orders on Strictly Come Dancing.

Actress Emma, 62, attended the eco-prize event solo as her husband was seen losing out to Judi Love in a tense Strictly dance off.

The 55-year-old actor and producer became the third celebrity to be eliminated from the competition after failing to impress with his samba to the Macarena.

After previously supporting Greg in the studio with their kids, Emma enjoyed a night out this weekend as she attended the star-studded showbiz bash alongside Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Emma donned a chic navy suit for the event, after guests were asked to wear recycled garments.

Fellow actress Emma Watson pulled out all the stops fo fill the brief as she wore ten dresses from Oxfam, fashioned into a quirky shredded ballgown which she teamed with a pair of black flared trousers.

Other celebs attending the bash included Sir David Attenborough and Dermot O'Leary and Clara Amfo, who were on hosting duties.

The Earthshot Prize was created by Prince William and The Royal Foundation to shed light on the environmental challenges facing the planet.

As well as guest speakers, the ceremony also featured performances from musicians including Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Yemi Alade, KSI and Shawn Mendes.

Love Actually actress Emma was seen engrossed in a conversation with The Duchess of Cambridge backstage at the awards after her stint on stage.

The pair were captured sharing a moment as Emma beamed at Kate who affectionately took hold of her wrists as she smiled back at her.

The ceremony aired on BBC One straight after the Strictly results show, which was actually filmed on Saturday night.

Greg Wise became the latest celebrity to get the axe, following EastEnders actress Nina Wadia and Hollyoaks' Katie McGlynn out the door.

Peep Show star Robert Webb also left the competition this week citing 'ill health'.

Robert said he was advised to quit 'for the sake of his health' following open heart surgery in November 2019.

After losing out to Loose Wome's Judi Love in the third dance off, Greg said: "I have had an amazing time, I feel unbelievably privileged and thank you all for having me."

His partner Karen Hauer told him: “It has been a blast, thank you for the amazing lunches, thanks for the quality of work, and for being an amazing student.

"I really enjoyed our moments in the classroom and just having fun with you."

Greg said he hoped to keep in touch with Karen after the show.
