Emma Raducanu vs Iga Swiatek LIVE: French Open scores and updates with Carlos Alcaraz also in action

Emma Raducanu is out of the French Open after suffering another heavy defeat to the four-time Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek, who improved her record against the former US Open winner to 5-0.

Swiatek defeated Raducanu 6-1 6-0 at the Australian Open earlier this year and although Swiatek came into the French Open struggling for form, the Pole was sharp from the off and illustrated why she is so supreme on the Paris clay. It led to another rout, with Swiatek overcoming an aggressive start from Raducanu to show her class and reel off a 6-1 6-2 win.

Meanwhile, defending men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz is though after beating Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan in four sets but two-time finalist Casper Ruud is out after the injured Norwegian was shocked by Portugal’s Nuno Borges.

Elsewhere in the women’s singles World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka headlines proceedings on Court Suzanne Lenglen when she faces Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann.

Emma Raducanu felt 'exposed' in French Open defeat to Iga Swiatek

18:32 , Jamie Braidwood

Emma Raducanu has admitted she felt “exposed” by Iga Swiatek during her 6-1 6-2 defeat to the four-time French Open champion.

While Swiatek has won the last three Roland Garros titles, Raducanu was playing on Court Philippe-Chatrier for the first time.

“It was the first time playing a match on that court,” she said. “It’s also different when it's filled and it's got everything around. You do feel like it is a big court. And it's different and it's new for me.

“It's a surrounding that she's obviously very comfortable with and she's played in it a lot of times. I think that did emphasise me feeling a bit of uncomfortable. But it's a good experience for if I ever play on that court again.

“It's difficult. You just don't really feel like there is that much space on the court, and certain moments you overhit, because you just feel constant pressure.

“I definitely think I can improve certain areas of my game to maybe make me feel like I have less holes. Yeah, I'm just going to try my best to work on that.”

UPSET ALERT! Tsitsipas trails qualifier

17:40 , Jamie Braidwood

Matteo Gigante, the world No 167 who started the week in qualifying, is a set away from beating former French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Italian left-hander is causing Tsitsipas all sorts of problems, despite never winning a French Open match before this week.

He leads the 20th seed 6-4 5-7 6-2 on Court Simonne-Mathieu.

Iga Swiatek 'ready to fight and compete' for fifth French Open

17:16 , Jamie Braidwood

Iga Swiatek now has 23 consecutive wins at the French Open (not at Roland Garros, obviously, as she lost in the semi-finals at the Olympics).

After Marta Kostyuk was knocked out, it will be either Jaqueline Cristian or Sara Bejlek (who defeated to Ukrainian) in the third round.

“I love playing here,” Swiatek said. “This place inspires me and makes me work harder. I think having some time off before helped me a bit. I’m ready to fight for it and compete.”

GAME, SET AND MATCH! Iga Swiatek 6-1 6-2 Emma Raducanu

17:02 , Jamie Braidwood

Speaking on TNT Sports, Tim Henman says that while Emma Raducanu will take the positives from her clay-court season, today’s 6-1 6-2 defeat to Iga Swiatek will leave her feeling “pretty raw”.

“She’s out on Chatrier playing the best clay-court player of her generation and it was a one-sided contest. There were glimmers of opportunity but Swiatek demonstrated her ball-striking capabilities. It’s a tough day at the office for Emma but I’m sure she will bounce back quickly.”

GAME, SET AND MATCH! Iga Swiatek 6-1 6-2 Emma Raducanu

16:57 , Jamie Braidwood

In her on-court interview, the interviewer starts by asking Iga Swiatek: “Although it was not an easy match to play Emma, how did you manage to make it look easy?”

“Oh come on” Swiatek replies. “I’m not focussing on that. I felt good on court and I thought I could do whatever I wanted to.

GAME, SET AND MATCH! Iga Swiatek 6-1 6-2 Emma Raducanu

16:53 , Jamie Braidwood

Iga Swiatek takes the second match point with a backhand winner! A supreme victory for the French Open champion. 6-1 6-2.

She improves her winning record over Raducanu to 5-0. She made a decent start, with some close games early on, but once Swiatek started pulling away Raducanu could not respond.

Swiatek holds up her hands as she puts away a sliced backhand volley, that takes a little clip off the top of the net.

Two match points.

Raducanu saves the first with a scorching forehand winner on the return.

Emma Raducanu 1-6 2-5 Iga Swiatek* - Swiatek breaks

16:47 , Jamie Braidwood

With wonderful footwork again, Swiatek moves into the short ball from Raducanu and steers the backhand winner. Raducanu said she couldn’t push the ball back but it must be so demoralising to face Swiatek when she’s on this form.

Raducanu saves the love-break with a wide serve, then Swiatek nets on the backhand after Raducanu found some depth. Swiatek goes big on the forehand return and Raducanu can only get her racket on it as the Pole breaks.

She’ll serve for the match next.

*Emma Raducanu 1-6 2-4 Iga Swiatek

16:43 , Jamie Braidwood

With Raducanu taking up a deeper return position behind the baseline, Swiatek moves forward and shows lovely hands to put away the drop-volley into the open court.

40-0. Raducanu’s forehand is pulled wide. Love-hold.

Emma Raducanu 1-6 2-3 Iga Swiatek*

16:39 , Jamie Braidwood

Raducanu misses on the inside-out forehand on 30-15, then misses on another forehand after Swiatek ramped up the intensity of the baseline exchange.

Raducanu saves the break point, and then manages to take the hold. The aggression pays off in the end for Raducanu as Swiatek misses on the backhand.

*Emma Raducanu 1-6 1-3 Iga Swiatek

16:33 , Jamie Braidwood

Raducanu finds her best return for a while and a double fault later in the game from Swiatek gives Raducanu a chance to break back at 30-40.

But Swiatek responds by winning another long baseline rally, waiting for the chance to open up on the forehand and directing the winner down the line.

Another double faults means Swiatek needs to save two more break points, steering another whipped forehand winner into the open court.

If this was Raducanu’s chance, Swiatek doesn’t let her take it. Swiatek finds the wide serve and then forehand winner.

Even with a few errors, she takes the hold.

Emma Raducanu 1-6 1-2 Iga Swiatek* - Swiatek breaks

16:22 , Jamie Braidwood

Winner, winner, winner. The ball is looking huge for Swiatek right now and she crushes groundstrokes off both wings to move to 0-40. Raducanu by comparison is now looking very underpowered and Swiatek rushes to the net to swat a volley between Raducanu’s legs and take the break to love.

It’s one-way traffic.

*Emma Raducanu 1-6 1-1 Iga Swiatek

16:18 , Jamie Braidwood

Swiatek is all over Raducanu at the net, with her sharp footwork allowing her to gradually move forward and put away the volley. Swiatek fires the ace down the middle and earns the love-hold, the first of the match.

16:14 , Jamie Braidwood

Psychologically, this is tough for Raducanu. But she’s got to stay aggressive. She makes a good start to the second set but holding serve, with Swiatek missing on the forehand after being forced out wide.

16:09 , Jamie Braidwood

Raducanu goes for the big forehand winner while moving to her right, but forces it long.

On 30-30, Raducanu misses on another forehand and it gives Swiatek set point to take a 6-1 lead.

Swiatek takes it with an ace! Hugely impressive from the four-time champion. The first few games were competitive, then Swiatek raced away.

Emma Raducanu 1-5 Iga Swiatek* - Swiatek breaks again

16:05 , Jamie Braidwood

Wow the Swiatek forehand is looking so good. Raducanu is looking to avoid it whenever possible, but the Pole takes aim against the serve and immediately takes over on the point.

Raducanu goes long on the backhand and is now in a tricky spot at 15-30. Swiatek waits on the backhand exchange, switches to the forehand and the blasts the backhand winner onto the line.

This is very good from the four-time champion and she has two more break points. Raducanu has to adjust to make the overhead, but puts it wide!

*Emma Raducanu 1-4 Iga Swiatek

16:00 , Jamie Braidwood

Swiatek gets her first serve in play and it allows her to wrap her huge arm around a huge top-spin forehand for the winner. Raducanu is starting to leave a couple of balls short, and Swiatek is stepping inside to put them away.

On 40-30, Raducanu steps on the return and finds the winner. Another backhand exchange, but Swiatek misses when she looks to step inside and move around it for the forehand. It goes to deuce.

Raducanu nets on the ad-return and Swiatek opens up a commanding lead in this set.

Emma Raducanu 1-3 Iga Swiatek* - Swiatek breaks

15:55 , Jamie Braidwood

Raducanu gets a couple of free points as Swiatek misses on the backhand side. But they’re handed back as Swiatek gets to 30-30.

Swiatek crushes a return at Raducanu’s feet and the Briton is unable to adjust. It brings up break point for Swiatek at 30-40.

Swiatek goes for the backhand side and Raducanu looks to hold on. But then the ball picks up and Swiatek gets on top of the backhand.

Raducanu clips the net cord but it drops back on her side.

*Emma Raducanu 1-2 Iga Swiatek

15:49 , Jamie Braidwood

Awesome forehand winner onto the line from Raducanu! Swiatek was left standing as Raducanu looked for the line - and it gets her to 30-30 for the second game in a row.

So good from Swiatek. The tempo and intensity of the baseline rallies is so high already. The Pole puts away the backhand winner. Raducanu goes long on the forehand and Swiatek holds.

Emma Raducanu 1-1 Iga Swiatek*

15:44 , Jamie Braidwood

Raducanu finds an ace down the middle to move to 40-15. Excellent serve out wide from Raducanu is followed by the backhand crosscourt to put Swiatek out of position, but Raducanu then nets on the drop shot.

Good aggression again from Raducanu and she roars as she attacks the backhand and the return from Swiatek drifts long. Raducanu is on the board.

*Emma Raducanu 0-1 Iga Swiatek

15:39 , Jamie Braidwood

Swiatek saves the break point with a big serve out wide. Raducanu attacks again with another deep return, but Swiatek turns defence into attack and finishes with the forehand winner out wide.

Swiatek can’t take the game point as she puts the forehand long. Raducanu attacks the second serve again but Swiatek responds with more power in the baseline exchange. Raducanu’s lob drops long.

Raducanu goes long on the forehand and Swiatek holds. But some encouraging signs for Raducanu if she can stay aggressive on the returns and ask some questions of Swiatek’s second serve.

Emma Raducanu 0-0 Iga Swiatek*

15:35 , Jamie Braidwood

Raducanu moves in after finding good depth to the baseline and puts away a forehand winner to get to 30-30.

Swiatek double faults! So Raducanu will get a very early break point.

Emma Raducanu vs Iga Swiatek

15:26 , Jamie Braidwood

The roof is open on Court Philippe-Chatrier, with conditions much improved in Paris after some rain earlier in the day.

The warm-ups are underway. Swiatek won the toss and elected to serve. Quite a few empty seats with fans taking a break after Alcaraz’s victory earlier.

Iga Swiatek on facing Emma Raducanu in French Open second round

15:24 , Jamie Braidwood

Swiatek and Raducanu both won grand slam titles as teenagers, with Swiatek winning her first French Open aged 19 and Raducanu’s US Open victory coming as an 18-year-old.

“She's a great player and has a great forehand,” Swiatek said. “She can use her topspin pretty well. So we played already couple of times, and we know each other's game. For sure I will need to be intense and focus on myself.”

On the 6-1 6-0 against Swiatek in Melbourne: “I didn't really think about that match, honestly. I was thinking about our Stuttgart match, and I think we played another time on clay after.

“Melbourne and Roland Garros are totally different surfaces, different stories. I'll prepare tactically as I should, you know, before a clay court match, and that's it.”

Emma Raducanu on facing Iga Swiatek in French Open second round

15:19 , Jamie Braidwood

“I think it's a match for me where I can really test and challenge myself. I think exposure to the top players is great for where I'm at for my development.

“I think especially on clay it's her preferred tournament and surface. She's won it, like, four times. It's a match where I can go out and test really just myself and go for my shots, because I know if I just push the ball, I'm probably going to get eaten. I need to, like, hit the ball. I'm looking forward to that challenge

“I think for the slams it's also completely different for those top players. They really kind of turn it on in the weeks that really matter.

“So she's a great opponent. I'm not expecting any wavering of level. Given the last times we have played, she's been on every single time. I think it's going to be a really, really difficult match.”

Reasons for encouragment for Emma Raducanu?

15:14 , Jamie Braidwood

Emma Raducanu has lost all four of her matches against Iga Swiatek and was thrashed 6-1 6-0 at the Australian Open earlier this year.

And Swiatek is the ‘Queen of Clay’ having won the last three French Open titles, with Court Philippe-Chatrier a bit of a fortress for her.

But Swiatek has had a more difficult year but her very high standards, with an early defeat to Danielle Collins continuing a tough run.

Raducanu has nothing to lose and has shown improved form on the clay, having taken on some big players this year such as Coco Gauff.

Still, this will be a big challenge.

Will be coming up next on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Now, does the roof stayed closed or will we get some outdoor conditions?

GAME, SET AND MATCH!

15:06 , Jamie Braidwood

Carlos Alcaraz is through! When he found his top level, there was nothing Fabian Marozcan could do as the defending champion races away to a 6-1 4-6 6-1 6-2 win.

Alcaraz was not perfect and there was a second-set blip, but he enjoyed being pushed by Marozsan and was always able to raise it.

Nine wins in a row at the French Open for Alcaraz and the title defence marches on.

“It was a great match, I think I started pretty well and was high on confidence, in the second set he started to play much better and didn’t miss at all.

“It was difficult to deal with but I stayed strong, I had a really strong last two sets.”

Carlos Alcaraz moves a game away

15:03 , Jamie Braidwood

Classic Carlos Alcaraz! Fabian Marozsan makes the mistake of leaving an angled volley within the Spaniard’s reach. Alcaraz races to the backhand and steers the pass down the line to set up break point. Then Marozsan does it again on the other side, leaving the channel for the forehand winner.

Alcaraz takes the double break to lead 5-2 and he is now a game away from the third round.

'I got lucky': Nuno Borges on Casper Ruud win

14:40 , Jamie Braidwood

Nuno Borges, 29, recorded his first victory against a top-10 opponent and the World No 41 advanced to the third round of the French Open for the first time in his career.

“I was fighting a lot especially that first set. I felt completely drilled. He was playing with a huge intensity and I wasn’t handling the situation the best. It was too much for me.

“I kept trying and I realised he started to slow down a little bit. Obviously he wasn’t a 100 per cent today, or I’m sure the result would not have been the same. But I’m still proud of how I battled.

“From the beginning until the end, I gave myself a shot and I got lucky.

“I realised he wasn’t moving too well to the sides. I thought he was still quick moving to my drop shots. I tried to open up the court a bit and I got some more free points.

“I thought, if I stay aggressive I will have a good chance. In the end I thought I played really consistent and really solid. I’m really happy. It’s a big milestone for me to reach the third round.”

Normal service resumes in Carlos Alcaraz match

14:38 , Jamie Braidwood

Unfortunately for Fabian Marozsan, Carlos Alcaraz came back to life in the third set. The French Open champion wins 93 per cent of his first serve points, blasts nine winners to three unforced errors and races away to a 6-1 third set in just 23 minutes.

The Spaniard now leads 6-1 4-6 6-1 after that little blip.

Injured Casper Ruud knocked out of French Open by Nuno Borges in huge shock

14:28 , Jamie Braidwood

Two-time runner-up Casper Ruud became the biggest causality of the French Open so far as the seventh seed was knocked out by Nuno Borges.

Ruud appeared to struggle with an injury and won just one game in the final two sets as Borges progressed to the third round with a 2-6 6-4 6-1 6-0 win.

The Norwegian took a medical timeout and received treatment on his left leg after the third set but carried on playing on the Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

However, he did not win another game as the Madrid Open champion suffered his earliest Roland Garros exit since 2018.

Ruud reached the French Open final in 2022 and 2023, losing to Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, and was beaten in the semi-finals last year by Alexander Zverev.

Casper Ruud in huge trouble!

14:18 , Jamie Braidwood

Wow, wow, wow. Casper Ruud now trails 3-0 in the fourth set to Nuno Borges! The Portuguese has won 10 of the last 11 games, and the Norwegian is in danger of becoming the biggest casualty of the French Open so far.

SECOND SET! Carlos Alcaraz vs Fabian Marozsan

14:13 , Jamie Braidwood

And we’re all square! Fabian Marozsan converts the early break and levels the match against Carlos Alcaraz. He does so with a big serve and forehand combo, with Alcaraz finding the net.

Marozsan is undoubtedly looking more confident on the big stage. But Alcaraz again just had a lapse in the first few points of the second set and now pays the price.

(Getty Images)

Marozsan a game from the second set as Ruud trails

14:03 , Jamie Braidwood

Marozsan is looking much more settled now and that forehand is coming into life. The Hungarian moves a game away from the second set after coming from 15-30 down on serve to move 5-3 ahead.

Over on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, Nuno Borges has gone two sets to one up against seventh seed Casper Ruud, breaking the Norwegian three times in a 6-1 set!

There could be a big upset brewing...

Carlos Alcaraz vs Fabian Marozsan

13:39 , Jamie Braidwood

It wouldn’t quite be a Carlos Alcaraz match in the early stages of a grand slam without some ups and downs.

From winning the first set, Alcaraz then goes a break down in the second, with Marozsan having the chance to go a double-break up.

Alcaraz saves and holds, but the Hungarian leads 2-1 in the second.

Meanwhile, Nuno Borges has levelled the match against seventh seed Casper Ruud. The Portuguese has won the second set 6-4.

FIRST SET! Carlos Alcaraz 6-1 Fabian Marozsan

13:23 , Jamie Braidwood

Oh that’s special from Carlos Alcaraz. Fabian Marozsan stepped in to crush a big inside-out forehand into the corner, but Alcaraz was there, sliding, to direct the backhand down the line for a winner.

It brings up two sets points. Marozsan saves a couple but Alcaraz takes the next one as he wins the net exchange and clips the half-volley for a winner.

Double-break for Carlos Alcaraz

13:09 , Jamie Braidwood

A sensational start from the Spaniard under the roof on Philippe-Chatrier, finding the edges of the court to put away a forehand volley and move *3-0 up against Marozsan.

Casper Ruud, a two-time French Open runner-up, has meanwhile taken the first set 6-2 against Portugal’s Nuno Borges.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Fabian Marozsan

12:51 , Jamie Braidwood

An interesting match-up now between defending men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz and Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan, who is ranked 56th in the world.

But the head to head is 1-1, with Marozsan winning their last meeting on clay. That was a couple of years ago in Rome, where Marozsan won the match of his life under a barrage of forehand winners.

He has the weapons and the game, but has been unable to produce it consistently to have a real breakthrough at the grand slams. But Alcaraz will be wary of his threat.

The roof on Philippe-Chatrier remains closed.

Game, set and match! Jasmine Paolini through

12:37 , Jamie Braidwood

Rome champion Jasmine Paolini continues her winning run on clay as she holds off the challenge of Alja Tomljanovic, coming through 6-3 6-3.

“It’s great to be back in Paris and back on this court,” says last year’s runner-up.

Up next on Court Philippe-Chatrier is defending men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz against Fabio Marozsan.

Lorenzo Musetti through as Jasmine Paolini leads

12:21 , Jamie Braidwood

Lorenzo Musetti is the first male player through to the third round as the Italian polishes off a 6-4 6-0 6-4 win over Daniel Galan. The Italian, who is the highest seed left in his quarter after the defeat for Taylor Fritz, will play either Reilly Opelka or Mariano Navone in the third round.

Looking to join Musetti is Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, who is now two games away from round three under the roof on Philippe-Chatrier. She leads Tomljanovic 6-3 4-2.

Jasmine Paolini underway and takes first set

11:59 , Jamie Braidwood

Rome champion and last year’s French Open runner-up Jasmine Paolini is opening the day’s play on Court Philippe-Chatrier and has taken the opening set 6-3 against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic.

Paolini is also a break up in the second set.

Qinwen Zheng has now beaten Emiliana Arango in straight sets to book a clash with the in-form Victoria Mboko in round three.

Teenager Victoria Mboko continues French Open run

11:37 , Jamie Braidwood

Victoria Mboko, 18, continues her French Open run by reaching the third round. The Canadian, who started in qualifying, takes out Eva Lys 6-4 6-4 on what is her first grand slam main draw appearance and she is still yet to drop a set.

The World No 120 will now take on the winner of the match of Court Suzanne Lenglen between Qinwen Zheng and Emiliana Arango, with the Olympic champion in a comfortable position.

French Open: Gael Monfils looks ahead to facing Jack Draper

11:25 , Jamie Braidwood

“I always said Jack would be a top-10 player. Like he was a youngster, played a lot in the practice. I really like the kid. He's a fantastic player. He's a top five. He has a lot of weapons, a lot of weapons. He's very gifted.

“It's going to be a hard one. He's in full confidence. I will do what I do best, try to recover and try to give my best there in Paris, in Roland Garros, and we'll see what scenario we will have.

“I hope for the next match it will be a night session. It will depend on many things, including how I wake up in the morning, that I'm ready to face a big fight.”

That could be a lively one on Thursday evening!

Jack Draper on securing his first French Open win

11:02 , Jamie Braidwood

Jack Draper is through to the second round of the French Open for the first time and the fifth seed is aiming for a lot more at Roland Garros.

Draper will play French home favourite Gael Monfils on Thursday after an opening win over the Italian Mattia Bellucci, 3-6 6-1 6-4 6-2.

“Very happy,” Draper said. “Obviously played here a couple of times. First time was a bit of a nonevent, to be honest, with my arm.

“Last year was a really difficult one, but really important moment I think for me and my career. It was memorable for good reasons as well as bad ones.

“I think, yeah, to win my first match here feels amazing. Obviously want to keep on going, want to keep on improving as the tournament goes on.”

French Open latest scores

11:00 , Jamie Braidwood

There are a few spots of rain falling over the grounds at Roland Garros. Meanwhile, let’s whip round some scores from the opening matches of the day.

Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng, who is not happy at all with the conditions, recovered from an opening break to take the first set 6-2 against Colombia’s Emiliana Arango.

Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, who is now the top seed in his quarter after Taylor Fritz’s exit, leads Daniel Galan 6-4.

And Amanda Anisimova is racing to victory against Victoria Golubic, with the American leading 6-0 4-2.
