The first Blossom Awards, co-founded by MP Alan Mak, will be hosted by comedian Phil Wang in Leicester Square on December 17 after its inaugural ceremony last year was called off because of Covid-19.
Mr Mak said he set up the prize to help challenge the “outdated stereotypes” of the community, which has become particularly important after a rise in reports of anti-Asian racism during the pandemic.
He became the first MP of ethnic Chinese origin when he won the seat of Havant for the Conservatives in 2015.
He told the Standard: “British-Chinese people play key roles in communities across the UK. There are lots of outdated stereotypes, particularly after Covid. British-Chinese people play a huge role in lots of industries.
“There is more to the culture than just China Town and I hope the Blossom Awards will show that.”
Mr Mak has also called for a Museum of Chinese in Britain to be built.
He added: “We should have a permanent museum as they do in the United States. We need to tell more of the story of how people from China came to the UK and why.”
