Emma Hayes singles out Chelsea Women star for special praise in key area after FA Cup win

Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes was full of praise for new England star Niamh Charles after the Blues progressed to the fifth round of the Women's FA Cup.

The Blues beat London City Lionesses 5-0 with goals from Charles, Jess Carter, Melanie Leupolz and a brace from Drew Spence.

And the boss highlighted the contribution of the 21-year-old who made her first senior appearance for the Lionesses in the last week and capped it off with a goal and two assists.

"That’s what happens if you apply yourself properly," Hayes told the club website. "She’s a top person and someone who takes on everything that is given to her and she’s flourishing as a result of it.

"She is not afraid to give what is necessary and I don’t think people realise how much top professionals have to sacrifice to get to where they want to go to.

"Niamh for me is a top professional, her dedication to herself, and to her task, is why I think she will go on and have a great career in the game."

Jorja Fox and Aggie Beever-Jones were handed their first starts in a much-changed side and Hayes was pleased with their performances too.

"I thought the young players came in and showed why they are deserving of their chance at this level," she added.

Chelsea will play either Everton or Durham in the next round.
