Emma from Friends now: Noelle and Cali Sheldon are making people feel very old in 2019

Friends fans have been left shocked after realising that Ross and Rachel’s baby daughter Emma would have almost reached adulthood if the show was still running.

Twitter user @justlucyslife voiced her bemusement online after re-watching an episode from the hit sitcom in which the characters filmed a special tape to mark Emma’s 18th birthday, which would have been celebrated in 2020.

“Ok so I was watching Friends last night and Ross was filming a tape for Emma’s 18th birthday and Chandler says the line ‘Hi Emma. It’s 2020. Have you woken up from your nap yet?’ she wrote.

“And it’s just dawned on me that 2020 is NEXT YEAR. Emma would be 18 NEXT YEAR.”

Her tweet has since been shared 12,000 times by fellow fans, who voiced their disbelief at how quickly time had passed since the final episode of the show aired in 2004.

“I could’ve sworn the show ended a couple of years ago. Can we go back to when we felt youthful?” one viewer lamented.

“That’s insane. However I’m now trying to work out how many years I’ve been friends obsessed for,” another added.

Others shared their belief that 2020 would be the perfect time for a reunion episode, which could coincide with Emma’s 18th birthday party.

“I’ve always said that they should do the reunion for Emma’s 18th birthday WE NEED THIS,” one Twitter user suggested.

“Next year would be the perfect year to do a reunion. Emma can watch the tapes,” another agreed.

The role of Emma was played by twins Cari and Noelle Sheldon, who are now 16 yeards old, in the final two seasons of the sitcom.

The pair will next be seen in horror film Us, director Jordan Peele’s anticipated follow-up to Get Out, alongside Elisabeth Moss and Lupita Nyong’o.
